What’s your story as an artist?
elevator pitch: I began playing music really young, started busking from 13 and basically been full-time music ever since. Met so many people and artists, and just having a really nice time
What inspired this last release?
‘Two Sparks’ was my first release of what you might call a ballad, I wanted to write about something a little bit more deeper and more complex. I recorded the vocals in Manchester with my producer friend Will, who I also did ‘Medicine Boy’ with, before finishing it off with Kaity Rae at her studio in North London. The song is about how good things can change, and you’re left waiting for a relationship to end because you both wanted something else.
Do you get inspired by other art forms?
A lot of my approach to writing lyrics comes from trying to encapsulate my perspective on a very particular emotion or experience, and I got a lot from my love of musical theater.
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
It all capped off a pretty mad time – I had to race to Manchester so I could finish the vocal, and I was coming down with something the whole way. By the morning we were all suffering but somehow we got it all done. Is making your friends ill for 3 weeks so no one could work a funny anecdote? ha…ha
What’s your favorite place or environment to write?
Anywhere really, but the headspace has to be right. I always try to write from experience and how I really feel about my relationships and the people around me. Most of my demos are written in my studio, but there’s a real magic to a good co write
