Born from the liminal space between the head and pillow of Songwriter Josie Callahan, Athens Georgia’s Honeypuppy interrupts your regularly scheduled programming with an exciting and fresh one-time TV offer: a sparkly new single delivered each month for your listening pleasure. Starting August 30th, experience the bliss and despair, anxiety and indifference, and present yet absent-minded glee of this episodic saga in Honeypuppy’s glowing new sonic collection, DIRTY TV. A nostalgic and poppy delight complete with twists, turns, and plenty of surprises, don’t miss a second of DIRTY TV, out on Indecent Artistry this Fall and Winter.
In the August 30th series premiere of DIRTY TV, Honeypuppy hit the ground running with the release of lead single “Understatement”, a sun-baked, upbeat pop anthem reminiscent of Guided By Voices and the Modern Lovers. “Understatement” noodles along, exploring the contrast between what’s left unsaid and what goes without saying.
“I wrote this song on a whim after listening to “Game of Pricks” by Guided By Voices over and over again one day. I really love that song because it’s got this warm and fuzzy feeling about it. I messed around on guitar and did my best Robert Pollard impression for the vocals. Later when I brought the song to the rest of the band, they came up with the bridge and we messed around with the structure together. It’s always fun to have to relearn a song you’ve written after some changes are made… that’s what I love about making music with my band mates.”
On the DIRTY TV project she shares:
“I think this project overall showcases each band member’s tastes and style in a way that’s really special to me. The recording process felt very playful and we gave ourselves time to bounce ideas off one another and try some new stuff out. It was especially fun having Neil Golden [of the Glands] come to the studio and watching him find crazy organ and synth sounds for different songs.”
“I want people to have time to get to know each song and make friends with them before they discover the next one. It feels right because each song really has it’s own vibe about them and we really wanted to showcase each one as it’s own thing.”
