‘Emergency’ blends trip-hop with raw instrumentals and classic jazz sounds. A call-and-response to Frank Sinatra’s “It Was A Very Good Year”, the track is written from the perspective of the girl Sinatra sings of. Both sonically and lyrically, the track nods to the past while being firmly rooted in the present, fusing soundscapes of longing and expansive storytelling. The Berlin-based singer delves deep to draw from her own experiences of mental health struggles, crafting a character that yearns for human connection and escape.

“I feel deeply connected to this song because it reflects my personal experiences with mental health struggles and the search for solace. There’s a strong sense of introspection and vulnerability in it, and I’m proud of how it blends different musical eras to create something both meaningful and timeless. For me, this song is not just an emotional expression, but also a creative achievement.”

“Normally, I craft my songs solo, but for this particular track, I teamed up with Denis Granan. He brought a fresh idea to the table: incorporating an electric piano with a vibe reminiscent of Chet Faker. I envisioned the drums with a gritty, atmospheric feel, something in the vein of Portishead or Massive Attack. The result is a fusion of Trip-Hop and Soul/Electronica.”

“When it came to the lyrics, I wanted to delve into the complexities of mental health, especially those tumultuous teenage years when you feel utterly lost. This concept sparked a memory for Denis of Frank Sinatra’s classic, “It Was a Very Good Year.” Inspired by that, I wrote the chorus with a nod to the song’s exploration of life’s stages, honing in on the girl Sinatra sings about during those tender teenage years.”
