Caroline Kingsbury announces a brand new remix EP, Remixes From Heaven, composed of newly remixed versions of hit tracks off her debut album, Heaven’s Just A Flight (released last year via Fortune Tellers Records). To kick everything off, she has shared the first remix, “Massive Escape (Arlie Remix).”

Remixes from Heaven also includes a dance remix from DJ Josh Lumsden and a remix by Fortune Tellers’ Peter Matthew Bauer, as well as two new alternate versions by Caroline herself. Currently on tour with Post Animal down the west coast, Caroline will be throwing a residency at Berlin in NYC all of June.

1. How did you get the idea for this the title of your debut LP?

When I wrote the title track “Heaven’s Just A Flight” I had just learned of my brother’s cancer spreading to the point where it was no longer feasible for him to be treated for it. I still wasn’t sure what was going to happen, and wrote this upbeat song to deal with the looming questions about my brother’s health.

2. Is there some darkness behind it despite your bright and eccentric looks?

My brother died around the time I was finishing up the album, so the element of darkness alongside the bright was a huge theme on the album.

3. Speaking of your looks, they are so unique! What inspires them?

I love late 70’s and 80’s new wave style…Blondie, Siouxise And The Banshees, and The Cure are some of my music and style icons.

4. What are your favorite topics to write about?

Everything I do is personal, so it always stems from something real even if it is something completely made up.

5. What are your top 3 fave artists these days?

  • Brimheim
  • Nation of Language
  • Harry Styles

6. What made you choose to release an EP of remixes, and what is your favorite remix/version on the EP and why?

I always felt like some of the songs on the album could do more than what they already did…so I took that attitude into the remixes, seeing what else I could pull out of these songs I wrote so long ago. My favorite remix has to be Massive Escape remixed by Arlie. It’s just such a fresh take on the song, it changed the way I relate to that song now.

7. What’s the best part about being an artist? What’s the worst part?

The worst part about being an artist is how demanding and mentally challenging the music industry is on your daily life and relationships. The best part is meeting people on the road who know the words to your songs, and the songs have met them somewhere in their life that has changed them for the better or comforted them when they needed it most.
