Emerging, independent rock artist Cutt has released the official music video for her latest single “No Crown In This Dead Town” The video, directed by Ethan Maniquis (“Machete,” Five Finger Death Punch, Daughtry), highlights her Los Angeles roots and the famed Sunset Strip, where the rocker frequently performs. “No Crown In This Dead Town” – produced by Sean Hurwitz (Smash Mouth) and Gregg Cash (Josh Todd & the Conflict), who also co-wrote the song with Cutt – is Cutt’s fight song, serving as motivation to keep working on her music and pushing forward with her career, even when it feels like you can be stuck.
“No Crown in this Dead Town” I wrote about me thinking about giving up on music. I was just feeling stuck in my career. I want to be bigger and sometimes I wonder if I have what it takes to make it to the big leagues.
I wrote the lyrics in my journal, which is usually how the best songs come about – just me writing down my thoughts. I wasn’t looking forward to my writing session the next day so that kind of inspired the song. So I wrote the lyrics and read them back the next day and still thought they were good so I called up Gregg Cash and Sean Hurwitz and scheduled a writing session to write the song. They also produced it.
I love No Crown! It is one of my favorite songs that I have written. It moves and has a big catchy chorus which I love. That’s the most important part of a song in my opinion.
I love the tv show Entourage. The show is all about Hollywood and in the song I’m questioning whether I wanted fame anymore so it was symbolically a good show to take from. We took inspiration from the intro to the show where the guys are driving in a convertible down Sunset Blvd which is what me and my band did in the video. The rooftop scene was inspired by the Click Five’s music video to “Just The Girl.” My mother had the idea for the rooftop and I immediately remembered the Click Five video!”
