What can you tell us about this album?
It’s an experience that you have to listen to from beginning to end. First and foremost, this is our story told from our own perspective on what Indigenous Futurism is. And the featured artists are doing the same. We all come from the same place, but we all have different perspectives based on where we come from. And that’s exactly what you hear throughout the album.
Why do you want to name it RED FUTURE?
It’s us paying homage to the generations that came before us that paved the way for us to be able to do what we do today. Being a good ancestor comes down to being a good person and standing for what’s right. That’s exactly what we were taught. And it’s our responsibility to do the same and pave the way for the next 7 generations to come. It’s important to see a future where our people are thriving.
Is there a specific song that represents this body of work the most?
We would have to say that it has to be SHAPESHIFTER. It truly embodies what the album stands for. We have our own story in the Haisla Nation about how the Raven stole the sun to give life back to the people. And at the same time, it’s about us coming into ourselves as creatives.
Your style is also quite unique. What inspires it?
The culture we’re a part of is the core of the inspiration. And when it comes to fashion, it’s all about being yourself and expressing yourself in a way you want the world to see you.
What is the creative dynamic between you guys?
It’s really a Yin and Yang combo. We both bring a balance to each other. We push each other to be the best that we can possibly be, but most importantly, we lift each other up. We were there for each other when nobody else believed in us and we’re still there for one another now.
Who are some of the Indigenous idols, mentors and heroes that keep you inspired?
Shout out to all the ones that have been there before us! Drezus, Mob Bounce, DJ Shub, Hallucination, Tanya Tagaq. All these artists and then some have helped us in so many ways. And continue to be there for us as we continue to grow as artists.
Are there any other themes, stories or topics you would like to address with your music?
Listen to RED FUTURE front to back. It really encompasses what we wanna be saying.
What are some of your favorite places you performed at and what was so special about them?
With every show we do, we perform in front of new fans, we bring people together to celebrate themselves. We don’t take any show for granted. Vancouver is home and will always have a special place in our heart. They took us in from day one and have been supporting us ever since.
Who are you listening to these days?
Tia Wood. She has a new project on the way that’s dropping after RED FUTURE. And she’s played a pivotal role in making RED FUTURE what it is.
What’s coming up for you guys after this project
Tour life. Coming to a city near you. Yung Trybez has a fashion line called Savage Kids that he’s bringing to life. We got a TV show coming to you in 2025, a scripted comedy based on our lives and our come-up that we’re Executive Producing, Story Consulting and doing the music for. And we got more bangers locked in the chamber ready to unleash to the world.
