As the North American leg of her sold-out world tour draws to a close with five West Coast shows, culminating with an April 5 show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, Natalie Jane unveils her new single, “can i see you tonight?” The infectious song, which already has fans chanting its chorus during her concerts, showcases Natalie’s powerful vocals and unique point-of-view as she chronicles the “hurricane déjà vu” of an ex who keeps returning.

Tell us about ‘can i see you tonight.’ What about this ex that keeps returning made you want to write this song?
Some people are really shitty and unfortunately lot of people end up in relationships with the wrong person for them. It’s a vicious cycle that a lot of people sadly experience but my hope for this song is to Have a safe place for those listening.

What have you learned from your toxic relationship? Any growth experiences?
If somebody doesn’t give you the time of day, you block them and you get rid of them. You should not tolerate anybody who doesn’t give you time and affection and the love that you deserve and I know that now.
Your tour has basically sold out everywhere. What kind of energy are you getting from your fans and what is the song that gives them the most energy?
The fans are the best part of this tour. They come in with the most energy and they are ready to jump and scream and it just makes performing so fun when I see them having fun.
What do you think is the most representative track from your debut EP and why?
My most representative track is I’m Her. It is my most empowering song and it is by far my favorite. It tells the story that nobody should have the control or power over your emotions. It is supposed to make the listeners, feel strong and indestructible.
How does it feel to be such a rising star at the young age of 19? How do you manage it all?
It is a crazy feeling. My dreams are coming true right in front of my eyes. I always have to take a second and step back and take a deep breath because it could be super overwhelming. It is tough when millions of people have their own opinion on you and you have to ignore those who don’t like you and focus on all the love. I definitely struggle with that but I think it’s just something I have to get used to. Every day something happens that I didn’t even know was possible just a few years ago. I’m so grateful for everything that’s happening and I’m so excited for the next year to come.
What do you feel your next project is going to address from a storytelling standpoint?
I think it’s going to reflect how I feel today. I feel more grown up and have a more mature mindset than I did when I started the last project when I was still in high school I’m really excited about the new stuff coming.
Do you remember the very first song you wrote? Tell us about it
It is the most atrocious song I’ve ever written. It is about having a fever. I wrote it when I was sick in like second grade I can’t explain how bad it was, but it was just the beginning.
Who inspires you the most in your life?
Billie Eilish is such a big inspiration to me. She is so unapologetically herself and I admire how much she cares about her fans and she just seems like such a genuine and funny person and I aspire to be like her one day.
