The late Queen of Soul’s son Teddy Richards (The Duke Of Song) has launched THINK RADIO globally on Live365, broadcasting worldwide. An extreme and eclectic music lover, Teddy developed a vast working knowledge and appreciation of many genres of music.
“I’m very proud! Everything’s coming together nicely on the THINK RADIO front and it’s so nice to see something coming together in reality after it being just an idea in your head.”
“I’m a very avid traveler and golfer – Teddy confesses when asked about the origins of this project – so years ago I discovered a podcast called American RVer that basically traveled around the Country interviewing interesting people along the way and producing their content in their RV. I was quite intrigued by it and thought it would be cool to start a similar one only focused on golfing and music.”
“Of course life happens quite fast and you get swamped with other projects so it took a few years but I finally revisited the very original idea I had and took to the next level which meant starting a radio station instead of a podcast and revolve the focus around music, production and everything else that concerns my bedrock which is obviously music.”
About his rendition of the timeless “Until You Come Back To Me” Teddy states: “The song has always had a very special home in my heart. As a child, I went to the studio with my mother when she recorded her original version. “It’s been an honor and a pleasure to record and share MY version of the song with the world as well. My mother is listening from heaven, singing along and smiling.”
“I pray that the world continues celebrating my mother’s God-given, soul-stirring voice and songs. As her son, I prefer to revere and celebrate my mother and her career without exploitation and fanfare; I prefer to celebrate her as both a mother and as the world’s Queen of Soul, in private reverence and with QUIET dignity.”
Teddy Richards had the opportunity to experience the magic of Aretha Franklin from so close so our curiosity is burning and can’t help but ask what was one the most memorable moments or anecdotes from that time.
“Obviously too many – he answers as he chuckles – but there’s one that comes to mind as we chat about it. I remember we were in NYC at Radio City Music Hall for a 3 nights back to back date. This was over the last decade of the group being together so as you can imagine we had quite a good pocket so to speak. I remember clearly that we were all in such a state of grace musically speaking and could anticipate each other’s moves and interact so smoothly that I became a fan of the music all over again like I had never heard it before.”
“But then what’s amazing about that night in NYC was that during the show Miss Franklin would just go sit on the piano and sing a few songs solo. That night I remember her singing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” I don’t know what it was but that night it was surreal, the room was hypnotized and so were all of us backstage after having experienced that same performance hundreds of times. That was the magic of Aretha Franklin: she could bring life to anything she sang and just make you forget about everything and anytime for a few minutes. What a blessing that was!”
