Emerging artist SASH is kicking off 2023 with a new single, “ROSSI.” The fast-paced track, produced with Apex Martin (Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign, G-Eazy) and Mike Dean (Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Travis Scott), comes on the heels of his debut project Bittersweet. 

While “ROSSI” maintains SASH’s signature moody style, it has an edgier and more dynamic feel that expertly evokes the thrill of a motorcycle joyride. A seventh generation New Yorker, SASH unabashedly expresses his love for the city through his art. SASH’s music and videos are rooted in nostalgia, whether it be old Lower East Side jazz clubs, 70’s film noir, or even his father’s hip-hop record collection. 

Tell us who SASH is and where your name comes from: 

My name is Jack Sash Basora. Sash is my middle name. I was named after my great grandfather Jack Sash. 

What’s your relationship with Mike Dean and what have you learned from him the most? 

Mike Dean is one of the most legendary producers of all time, I’m grateful to have a relationship with him at all. He’s a mentor and a collaborator. I’ve learned from him most to not over think and to consistently be the hardest worker you can be. 

What inspired this racing imagery for ROSSI? 

My pops has been riding motorcycles since he was 13 or 14 and when my brothers and I were growing up, we were all into watching MotoGp racing. We had the toy versions of Valentino Rossi’s bike and a bunch of others. 

What does Valentino Rossi mean to you if in any capacity? 

Valentino Rossi is an example of greatness. 

What’s your favorite thing about being an artist in NYC? 

The best thing about being an artist from New York City is the inspiration of all the legendary artists and art that’s come out of the place. 

What’s your favorite thing about being a human being in NYC? 

The best thing about being a human being in NYC is the pace. It’s fast and unpredictable, like life. 

What’s the overall message of your music? 

The overall message of my music is: whatever you want to take from it that makes you feel best.
