Jacque Ryal has carved out a niche as an indie-pop artist, songwriter, and producer. Transitioning from her roots in ‘Strip Darling’ and the synth-electronic duo RYAL, she has embarked on a solo journey that seamlessly blends her love for songwriting with the intimate purity of electronic production. Earlier this year, she captivated audiences with her EP “Songs for Driving,” inviting listeners to embrace the liberating power of music. However, Ryal took a poignant turn with the creation of “Solar,” a heartfelt ballad that delves into the emotional turmoil of her friend’s divorce, showcasing her depth and versatility as an artist.
“Solar” delves into the emotional gap and yearning within a relationship. The lyrics express disappointment and the recognition that both people are out of sync. Through the repeated phrase “We’re worlds apart,” the song emphasizes the emotional disconnection, while portraying growth and resilience, signifying a readiness to move forward despite the pain. Overall, the song encapsulates the intricate emotions of love, distance, and the journey of finding the strength to keep going with that ache.
“I watched my two very good friends fall in love, exchange vows, and then within a year their marriage fell apart. It was devastating for both of them but, I was particularly drawn to one of their stories because I could see so clearly from her perspective. I started working on this track and the initial lyrics came and I just knew I needed to get out in the song what I thought she was
saying/feeling. I also knew her partner very well, so I knew the deal when it came to their unhealed wounds and defense mechanisms. Tale as old as time, when someone needs to deal with their shit, and if they don’t it takes the toll on the relationship”

Though heavy in electronic production, Jacque Ryal couldn’t help but incorporate genuine string elements into it, which is why she brought musician and composer Tiger Darrow along to provide both strings and some powerful backing vocals to enhance the haunting atmosphere of this song.
“Solar” is an amazing track featuring a very “full” sound that is nothing short of imposing, the lower registry strings in the back of the track drone and brood continuously, providing a sense of “impending doom” that reflects upon the song’s themes. The delicate vocals on the other hand provide a sweetness to counteract the bitterness and shine the light of hope in this otherwise sad ballad.
