Tell us about the genesis of your project. How did you get to where you are now?

It took a looooong time to really familiarize myself with the type of artist and music I wanted to put out, “shedding the skin” like one of my new song’s BRB’s “lyrics” is the most accurate way of describing it, as I have gone through several musical transformation in both genre, style and evolution. But I’ve arrived, and I couldn’t be happier.

What should a song or piece of art communicate in your opinion?

Something meaningful, familiar or that draws feeling. It’s so surreal when you listen to a song and the lyrics communicate just how you’re feeling in that instant, it gives me goosebumps! I’ve had many songs get me out of dark times.

Who were your top 3 artists last year?

I’m a big fan of Frank Ocean and his alternative R&B, The Weekend for his amazing vocal range and playfulness, and I always, always, ALWAYS have some Amy Winehouse playing at least once a day.

What do you do when you’re feeling uninspired?

I pick up inspiration from nature, situations, discussions with friends and strangers… But when I’m feeling a bit of brain fog, I like to retreat back into my shell and daydream about more fantasy-like scenarios or visuals. Sometimes you can’t force inspiration to come through, you have to give it time and space, I find it will hit me in the weirdest moments which is why I always keep my notes handy for random inspo flow in my day to day.

What are your 2022 projects and goals?

Doing what makes me happy and continuing to experiment on my music journey. I have been playing with acoustic Ukulele, different sounds to bring towards a new album that will be a step away from my latest EP digitally.

Favorite movie or TV show?

My favorite movie is a cross between Edward Scissorhands and The Little Mermaid.  I love how there are both protagonists who rebel against societal expectations to do what they love.

Tell us about your latest release and how it came about

My latest release, BRB is all about checking out of reality temporarily to get in touch with your truer, higher self and hone the magic you have from within. I have done a lot of soul searching and spirituality as of late and wanted to create a new age mantra fit for all the modern babes navigating life right now.

What is something you would want to change in the music and entertainment industry?

The expectation to always be the same. Let’s be open to newness, uniqueness, even if it sounds outlandish at first. I think the beauty of art is how it can come in all these different ways. We should embrace that and support it.

Can you outline your creative process?

It’s kind of all over the place haha! I could be writing a song when another idea pops up in my head. I am not the type to sit in a quiet place and write, I love listening to the rhythm of things and let it vibrate through my pen. I’m inspired by everyday scenarios, and ways to integrate magic into those, because it truly is everywhere we just have to find it.

Who inspires your style and aesthetics?

Nostalgia mostly, I was a huge fan of Sailor Moon and how it inspired a whole generation of “magic girls” to believe in themselves and the power to make changes in the world. The 90’s were pretty great for aesthetics, escaping into fantasy with a wholesomeness we don’t find often anymore.

What is the achievement or moment in your career you are the most proud of and why?

Getting documentaries made about my artist and mermaid life by Vice or Truly were definitely those “OMG” moments that I always cherish and look back on.

What do you think an artist should sing about nowadays?

Positivity. We need that in the world. There’s so much negativity in the air, that anytime I listen to something positive and even better with a touch of whimsy it really brings a smile to my face!

Do you have any regrets?

Not really, for me it’s all about the journey. Sure I’ve made mistakes but I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am now without those.

What is some piece of advice you would give to yourself right now?

To take my own lyrics’ advice, haha. Sometimes we’re too scared to make big changes because change is scary, but it can also be super exciting.
