Your new single ‘Crazy World’ drops on April 17. What inspired the message behind the track, and why did you feel now was the right time to release it?

G: What inspired the message was and is all the inhumane issues that continue to occur again and again globally. No time like the present! ‘The Time is Now’ – we can make an effort to reach out to people and be kinder and care more.

There’s a clear call for more humanity in *Crazy World*. Can you talk about the social or emotional experiences that shaped the song’s lyrics?

G: London, where we live, can be an isolating city. People barely talk to each other and if you say good morning to someone you don’t know they immediately turn away and think you’re crazy, in a sense we’ve lost our sense of community.  Community even in our cities starts with our neighbours, even if we seem to have little in common, I can guarantee there will be something we share that we can both agree on.  It’s my observations of what is around me.  I have to say though once you take that step to be more friendly you attract the same back! So, it’s about sending out positive energy.

Following the success of your debut single *Never Change*, how did that momentum influence your approach to this second release?

OC: Gizella & I made the decision to release 4 singles across 2025 together & had agreed the release order of each song, Crazy World was to be our first release. I wrote ‘Never Change’ a couple of months before the release date to ensure we had an engaging and competitive sound for our first song that would hopefully leave the listener wanting to hear what we dropped next.

G: Never Change was about a broken relationship that couldn’t be salvaged, I wanted the second to be more about humanity, because we need that right now, with all that is going in around us, we need to be reminded to make that effort in radiating kindness and care to others.

Drum and Bass often leans into high energy and escapism. What was it like using the genre to explore something more introspective and socially conscious?

OC: It was a decision for sure. I always consider how a production will be perceived, is it too preachy or too generic? My thought process is always the same, does the song make you wanna dance? If yes then the energy & escapism are already baked in. After that I relax & have fun matching instruments to the song’s theme.

G:  It’s thinking outside the box – I didn’t really think that much about it at the time…it just seemed right, …to dare to be different.  It’s so much easier to write a topline that is about escapism than write about something more thought provoking…however as a lyricist I like to explore new avenues and why not drop it in some drum and bass!

How would you describe the creative chemistry between you as a duo? What does each of you bring to the table when producing a track like this?

OC: If Gizella & I weren’t making songs together we’d still be great friends. Our skills overlap but if I had to be specific then I’d say creativity, originality, mutual professional respect and trust is our secret recipe to create a track like ‘Crazy World’.

G: Obsidian Cane has a knack for creating tracks that bring in other genre elements.  We both have a wide taste in the kind of music we listen to.  OC will send me tracks and let me choose what I vibe with then I work out a vocal melody and the lyrics are last.  OC usually gives the track a title which gives me a metaphorical board to jump from. I will also let OC know what sounds ‘speak’ to me.  He is also very good at song construction, and also songwriting too so we are in synch in terms of what we do.  Also, I have a lot of shelved vocals that he is exceedingly talented in building a track around too so we have a lot of creative options!

Can you share a moment from the studio where the track really clicked—or surprised you creatively?

OC:I received the vocals from Gizella before I wrote the music & was inspired by the originality. The surprise came when I searched for a lead instrument to match the vibe of Gizella’s performance and the electric guitar fit perfectly!

G: Although we live only down the road from each other I generally record my ideas in the comfort of my own home. – the track clicked from the time OC sent me what he had built around my vocal, that was ‘Magical’…when I heard it in his studio, I was blown away at what he had done… because his studio sound is superb!

Gizella, your vocals are such a driving force in the song. How did you approach the emotional delivery for this particular message?

That’s kind of you to say…I did try to get a balance in how I delivered it ….to get the emotion I did a lot of visualisations – and tapped into what I see around me day to day in London!

Obsidian Cane, you’ve built a sound that merges old-school roots with fresh production—how do you keep your style evolving while staying true to your foundation?

This is not easy to answer! I’m very respectful to the foundations of a genre I produce by always referencing its roots and how it’s evolved. Then I ask myself if this genre was created today how would I do it & still make it appeal to people not into this genre.

You’ve received praise from outlets like Play Magazine and Your EDM. How have those early reviews influenced your confidence or direction as artists?

OC: For me I decided some time ago the direction I wanted to pursue as a producer to be as creative as I can, to always be original & to keep improving as a producer. There is a validation you feel from great reviews but I do what I do for my love of music & to hopefully keep people loving music too.

G: We’ve had some really great reviews that has reinforced our confidence in staying original and true to ourselves.  The ‘magic’ is using our imaginations and plucking ideas from the ether to construct something that can inspire the listener or dancer.
What can fans expect next—will *Crazy World* lead into a larger body of work, or are you planning to continue releasing singles throughout the year?

OC: 4 songs from Gizella & myself are releasing this year (two down, two to go) that takes us to October. In the new year we’ll evaluate & then maybe.. ha!
