Combining contemporary 90’s R&B influences with tinges of punk/rock music, Pisceze is a dynamic force who has a unique way of encapsulating energies, vibes, and complex experiences in her music, and transmitting them to her listeners packaged in a beautiful blend of R&B and Pop.
Exceeding expectations that she’s built through previous releases, Pisceze returns with “Dodging bullets”. This electrifying release is alternative R&B at its best with an edgy nature, elevated by her effortless riffs that exude chilling confidence and warm vibrance all at once.
Sharing her thoughts on the new release, Pisceze explains “Dodging bullets is about falling in love with the right person at the wrong time… and how it destructs your vision about a person because you’re trying to force it to be real. I wanted to dive into the punk/rock genre because I grew up with this music.”
With sultry vocals swirling into an intricate, alt-rock-tinged soundscape, Pisceze allows for her celestial harmonies to cushion her every word and capture the depth of the song’s meaning.
Inspired by her Korean/Japanese heritage and western upbringing, Pisceze made her debut in 2019 with her R&B single “What’s Your Sign,” and has evolved through the ranks ever since. She draws inspiration for her timeless music from her life experiences. Common themes in her music encompass love, in all its forms, combined with bold textures and rhythms.
A talented songwriter, she has penned lyrics for the likes of Shawn Mendes, BTS and Sabrina Carpenter, and counts her biggest musical influences as Blink 182, Nirvana, Destiny’s Child, NSync, B2K, and Brownstone among others.
Having displayed the range of her songwriting prowess, and been featured across tastemaker music sites including the likes of Clash, Earmilk, Notion, FMS, Complex Canada, Link Up TV, Pisceze has fully established herself as a true gem to keep your eye on as one of the most exhilarating newcomers on the scene as her trajectory continues to elevate further with each release.
Tell us about your story as an artist
I started as a songwriter, I would get invited to sessions and create songs based off of what that artist was going through. I like to make music out of real shit, real stories. Til this day I still use other people’s stories and paint it in my song – whether it’s about love, heartbreak, friendships, hardships etc… I’m a pisces, hence why my artist name is pisceze, it’s hard for me to directly talk about my feelings or even talk about myself because I can get super deep and emotional. But because we’re like that, we love to help others with what they’re going through – it’s like we can almost feel what they’re feeling… and in a way I relate because of some of the things I’ve went through and that’s how alot of my songs come to life.
What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?
Knowing yourself, protecting your energy and enjoying the present moment, the journey. As a creative, I know for me I tend to overthink alot – one day I’ll get caught up in my past then the next day about my future… I forget that this is a journey and the best way to go about life is to have fun and just enjoying the present moment. I don’t want to look back and be like “damn, I really just stressed myself out by focusing on the wrongs things” … that’s why I think it’s important to know yourself, know that you’re going to be okay, and believing that things are going to work out in your favour – no matter what circumstance, things and/or people that try to get your way.
What makes this song special in your opinion?
The ingredients that were added to this song makes it special, not only did I work on this song with the people in my team (writing, production, creative direction) but the meaning behind making this song. I’m a huge Blink 182 fan, I grew up listening to Rock – Nirvana, Blink 182, The Used, My Chemical Romance… and if you listen to the song and you listen to Blink 182, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. It was really cool to go back to my roots too, even the aesthetic and creative direction of this song is that Punk/Rock vibe.
What inspired this track?
Blink 182 and Heartbreak haha
What are some of the core messages here?
Well the song is basically about loving the right person at the wrong time…I used to believe in that motto, but after going through what I went through and hearing other people going through the same thing I don’t believe in that… When it’s the right person than there’s no wrong time to be together…There are literally no rules to love or be in love.
How do you think tik tok and social media are contributing to change an artist’s career?
I know that Tik Tok plays a big role in an artist’s career… You can upload a video of you doing nothing with your song in it and it can blow up the next day and BOOM you have a trending song – the thing about that is it also translate to Instagram Reels, Youtube Shortcuts and even Twitter.
What excites you about your life?
The journey and making things happen with my team – nothing more excites me than to just wake up and do this with the people that have the same goals, same vision.
What are some of your core values as a human being?
Loyalty, once we’re locked in… we’re locked in forever.
What are your projects for this year?
I have a duo project coming out with another artist from Toronto coming out this year and also my solo project right after.
