Championed by BBC Introducing and across tastemaker press, Rheo Uno has established herself as one of the most exciting up and coming pop artists to emerge since her debut release in the summer of 2021. Now back with the new single ‘Don’t Wanna Be In Love (DWBIL)’, the solo artist is once again demonstrating her insatiable dance-pop qualities.

Combining conversational tongue-in-cheek songwriting with her distinctive soulful vocal delivery, dance beats and ultra melodic tracks, Rheo’s songs are relatable and empowering, enhanced by her own unique sense of style and self-assurance.

The new single ‘Don’t Wanna Be In Love’ is no exception, delivering super-catchy vocal lines over an infectious beat with a 90’s influenced piano line, subtle electronics and a bopping, funky guitar and bass line. Written in collaboration with Charles Drew (Monarchy Music) and Amira Eldine, DWBIL not only demonstrates Rheo’s impeccable, silky and effortlessly controlled vocals, but also her self-styled water-tight songwriting skills.

What’s the story of this release?

The song talks about breaking free and living your best life, escaping a controlling partner and being true to yourself.

How its easy to allow yourself to be pressured into believing that someone is the right “fit” for you, but however scary , its better to be on your own than with someone with a negative vibe, the type who overshadows everything else you’re trying to achieve

So for me quite a deep concept, but as always presented in a positive, upbeat way, because life should be about the party and the people you’re partying with.

What is your relationship with love and being in love?

Love is a big word, and means different things in different relationships, I am basically blessed with so many different types of relationships with people who mean the absolute world to me. I’m a very open and loving person with the people that are closest to me.

What’s the great source of inspiration for you?

I take small details of what I see in the relationships around me, and build a conversational story around the idea.

How would you describe yourself in one word?

Self-critical, I know that’s 2 but you know!

How would you describe your music in one word?

Upbeat

Even when the topic is serious I’ll present it with a positive vibe

Future projects and goals?

I get huge support from BBC Introducing so National radio play is a huge goal of mine this year

We’ve got so many quality songs ready to go, so looking at an EP early next year and a series of live performances.
