East London based Alt.pop singer Heff VanSaint has released a moving new track in tribute to their late friend, who died earlier this year through tragic circumstances. The emotion-packed, synth driven song is a haunting account of a young life cut short.
The former one half of synth-pop duo Miracles, who achieved radio play on the likes of BBC Introducing and Radio X, has produced an emotionally uninhibited anthem that fuses old-school storytelling, with a contemporary lo-fi indie sound. The unconventional, off beat drum patterns are reminiscent of Wold Alice, which marries well with VanSaint’s dark and intimate vocal delivery. Youth on Fire is a heartbreaking tribute to an electric spirit snuffed out at its most beautiful.
Hailing from Aberdeen where musical outlets were hard to come by, VanSaint has received a musical education in the creative spaces in and around East London. She has worked with Irish producer Paddy Hunt, who’s syncs include Nissan, Carphone Warehouse and Sky.
A non-binary artist who goes by she/they pronouns there is a distinctive queer energy that exudes from VanSaint’s vocal deliveries.
Her sound is ripe for the times and reminiscent of artists such as Hyyts, St Vincent and King Princess.
“Youth on fire is a tribute to a friend of mine who tragically died earlier this year. I wanted to capture his energy and irrepressible being, through this track, which is part a mournful tale of loss and partly a celebration of an electric spirit.”
