“I think falling in love can happen over years, over weeks, or in a moment,” Dreamer Boy explains. “I feel like this album was exploring my relationship with romance, modern romance. Hard truths leading to real heartbreak, and also ambient relationships that feel like they still linger somewhere in your soul forever. Not so black and white.”

Dreamer Boy and his band, The Lone Stars, will support the album with a month-long North American headline tour, which kicks off on May 28 at Valley Bar in Phoenix. The Summer in America tour, which will include shows at Nashville’s Exit/In (June 4) and Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn (June 11), will conclude at the historic Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA on June 27. See below for itinerary. Tickets are available HERE.

Tell us about Lonestar. The title and creative suggests a western vibe. Where did this idea come from?

It comes from Texas! I grew up in Waco, and have family in Austin. I felt like the title worked on a few levels, it felt connected to the sound, it has LONE in the name which I think this album speaks to a bit of the lone journey after a break up, and it ties it all back to the Texas roots.

What experiences can you recall that changed your way of thinking and creating?

Meeting the group of collaborators I worked with on this album completely changed my perspective on making this album. A lot more organic, live takes, room noise, fun stuff. I really felt like the pushed me to make something unlike anything I’ve put out before.

How did you go about choosing the singles for Lonestar?

I like to just put myself in the audience shoes and think about which songs in which order would get me excited or intrigued. I think that the first single is the most important. “Heartbreaker” felt like it was unashamed and bombastic in how it presented the new sound of this album.

What is one of your favorite studio memories you have from creating the album?

Too many to count. There was a moment when we were trying to figure out how we were going to retract drums for most of the album, and we were weighing our options of spots in town in LA we could afford, and for the budget we were going to spend on renting one of those studios we decided to just drive up to Tacoma Washington from LA where we had a hook up at an amazing studio up there. I remember the impulse decision we made to make that journey just to record some drums, it felt like we could do anything we wanted. The process felt free.

What can we expect from your upcoming ‘Summer In America’ tour?

I’ll be playing the new record with my full band, as well as some of the older music with the band and sort of reworking the old material into the new band sound. It’s so exciting to give old songs a new life.

Any specific cities you look forward to performing in the most?

I can’t wait to have a homecoming in Texas and in Nashville, both places I’ve lived. I think those shows will be sentimental.

What are your next moves for the remainder of this year?

I hope to make some new music and just stay afloat, lots going on in my life right now outside of music so I feel like I will need to write about it soon haha
