With its series of synths and metallic production elements, “Before I Prosper” gives fans a glimpse into the barrier-breaking sounds they can expect in The Vision EP, the Barbados-born singer’s upcoming project set to release in September. Ayoni continues to push sonic boundaries by infusing her moody and ethereal pop sound with a beautiful adaptation of island soul.

Born in Barbados, based in LA and growing up bouncing around Singapore, Indonesia and America, Ayoni’s draws on her travels to guide her unique sounds and musical journey as both a young, Black woman and an immigrant.

“Before I Prosper” was born from betrayal as a reminder to myself that brighter days were coming. Its sonic freedom represents the adventure I was on trying to find my peace after pain and disappointment. It’s a retro, futuristic vibe inspired by the groove of Bennie and the Jets and the warmth, experimenting and darkness of alternative music. I hope it resonates for all who hear it.”

“It’s a School Night was a beautiful experience. It was my first time performing the EP in its entirety and that was very special. I love performing ‘Before I Prosper’ live because it’s a record so geared toward a collective and in-person experience. Even listening to it in a group is so impactful for me, so being able to go on that journey with my audience made me feel so connected to the room.”

Ayoni works with creative incubator and artist resources collective HIFI Labs. As one of the talented musicians who is a part of Artist Lab, which is a roster of emerging artists supported by HIFI Labs’ A&R division, Ayoni receives creative support, financial resources and more from the start-up to empower her throughout her career journey.
