Forgetmyname, the musical project of singer / songwriter Nicole Morales, has released the music video for her debut single “Complex”. “Complex” has already made an impact as a standalone single, but the narrative and emotions of the song are heightened to another level by the music video.
The music video for “Complex” depicts Nicole as a spurned lover watching helplessly while someone she cared about moves on with someone else, left wondering to herself “what can I do to make you feel this way?”.
What inspired this release?
-It was the first time feeling like I had really captured the sound I wanted Forgetmyname to be. It’s been a little over a year since finished it and i’m still learning as I go but having finally finished a song I was so connected to lyrically and sonically I knew It had to be the first single.
What makes this song special in your opinion?
-For me its my influences really coming across in my own form. It’s a fun song, all the musical elements disguise the sadness or desperation in the lyrics
What was your first exposure to music?
-Oh man so young. There’s definitely a video somewhere of me singing every lyrics to No me Ames by Marc Anthony and J-lo when I was 3-4 years old. Both my parents were huge music fans and exposed me to so much variety in both Spanish and English. I was always bouncing around from my moms family house to my dads and within each room there was a different genre playing in both households.
What is the lyrical content inspired by?
All my insecurity and vulnerability about my relationship at the time coming out. This complexity of loving and wanting a person so much but feeling like you can’t be what they want no matter what you try.
How do you keep yourself inspired?
-My curiosity is definitely the main factor to my inspiration. I always want to know how a song was made or produced or where the influences came from. Not just with music but anything I take interest in dissecting this one thing and exploring all its different branches.
How would you describe your style in one word?
-Eclectic!
What are our next moves?
-As of right now just making as much music as possible. I’ve been exploring new sounds and influences that I really want to play with in the studio so I’m just really excited to get all these new ideas to come to life.
What excites you about your life?
My own self discovery. Everyday can bring new emotions or challenges but through them working to keep on removing the layers of who I am, the feelings I used to feel or the person I used to be and with it evolving.
