Announce Updated Miss Your Birthday Australian Tour Plans Including Upgraded Venues

Rapidly rising Australian punk stars Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have officially unleashed a new video for their knockout single “Miss Your Birthday” today. Meanwhile the band are also announcing updated details for their Miss Your Birthday single tour including venue upgrades in Melbourne (Corner Hotel) and Sydney (Mary’s Underground). The news comes shortly after the band nabbed a slot during triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown for their equally-knockout single “AHHHH!” last month (#117).

In today’s “Miss Your Birthday” clip, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers – comprising Anna Ryan (vocals/guitar), Scarlett McKahey (guitar/vocals), Jaida Stephenson (bass) and Neve van Boxsel (drums) – find themselves in detention and missing vocalist Anna’s birthday. From the costuming and staging to the girls’ performance alongside a cameo from Slowly Slowly’s Ben Stewart, this is one of the group’s most impressive and fun music videos to date.

On today’s video, Scarlett adds:

The “Miss Your Birthday” video is a big bowl full of all our favourite things! The bright colours with the lil punk schoolgirl skirts are the two sides of Teen Jesus, so it’s amazing to see them on screen for the first time! The storyline follows Neve, Jaida and Scarlett who are stuck in Detention being yelled at by their teacher (Ben Stewart from Slowly Slowly) and are missing Anna’s birthday party. The video was directed by Kyle Caulfield, who aimed to keep the story fairly loose but very visually encapsulating. We had the best time with Kyle and his team and are so excited to finally share our first real music video.”

Tell us about Teen Jesus

We have quite a wholesome story. We’ve known each other for such a long time because we went to school together from a young age. We all discovered together that we love music so we started this silly little band. It helped that we were such good friends so creating music together was easy peasy. And now we’ve created something quite awesome haha.

What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?

Right now we have a lot of exciting stuff going on. I think aside from being #117 in the hottest 200 we just think it’s super important to stay connected and check in on each other. We aren’t all together all of the time which makes it hard but we always find time to give a lil lovin or advice.

What makes this song special in your opinion?

Miss Your Birthday is different to anything we’ve released before, and that makes it very special to us. It has many more pop influences than our other songs and we believe it’s a breath of fresh air amongst our other songs. It’s a bright, pop, sunshine song that’s both accessible and relatable to everyone.

What inspired this track?

The track was inspired by nostalgia, cosiness and homesickness. It’s about wanting to leave the nest but secretly needing to be back on your Mum’s sofa, away from all grown up responsibilities. We are all at the age where we’re still getting used to living out of home and being independent, and sometimes the only option is just to go home and cuddle up.

How do you think tik tok and social media are contributing to change an artist’s career?

First of all we love tiktok because it truly does help a lot of emerging artists get out there. We have discovered so many cool artists and bands that we probably wouldn’t have otherwise. But second we haven’t QUITE gotten the hang of it yet. Once we get with the trends it’ll be time for total world domination x

What excites you about your life?

Honestly we are just so excited to see how this year plays out. We are keen to get back out there and let people know who we are and what we are capable of. It’s a strange feeling not knowing what’s to come but whatever it is we are damn READY:)

What are some of your core values as a human being?

Some of our core values include being kind and considerate and giving people a chance. We were a small band with a big dream once too and if nobody gave us a chance we wouldn’t be where we are now. It’s important to treat everyone with respect and to look after your friends and fans cause we do care and we are just one big happy family

What are your projects for this year?

We have a lot cooking in the teen Jesus oven this year but it’s gonna be new and exciting and we just can’t frikken wait. There’s some tours involved there’s some hot of the press content and definitely some time to boogie and that’s all we can say.
