As we said, 2024 seems to be Vi City’s biggest year yet, and his appearance on the famed YouTube artist spotlight series, From The Block Performance, where Vi lit a fire from under everyone’s seat with a locked-in performance of his R&B/Hip-hop hybrid ballad “In Mode”, is available right now on YouTube and Instagram.
“In Mode” is a complex song full of feelings, mainly longing, loss, love, and heartache, all intermingled in the most painfully honest way possible. Of course, it all hinges on Vi City’s delivery, and he wouldn’t have been featured in From The Block if it was anything less than pure gold. The song begins with a very genuine soul-bearing intro resonating with luxurious R&B polish, punctuated by the appearance of a black-clad ballet dancer just in the background, yet at the 1:09 mark, when the girls bearing red party cups and liquor show up, the sentimentalism takes the back seat for a new kind of “fuck it, we ball” attitude that is just as real.
This track is the leading single in Vi City’s latest album, “So Now What ...” The 10-song project is a journal-like confessional full of heartbreak, self-discovery, and reinvention that builds on the groundwork left by his previous album “Hotels and Heartbreaks,” where we first got to witness his impeccable flow and smooth R&B sensibilities.
