Adptd releases her single “Believe It Or Not” – a track describing the labyrinth of emotions as Randle navigates the complexities of faith. This track marks the final single release before the “Bedroom Walls” EP is unveiled in its entirety on February 25th. Randle’s unabashed approach to songwriting is evident as the song portrays her perspective on religion through the setting of a typical Sunday morning:
“Believe it or Not is about my religious views and how skewed they are to me. I’m not here to knock religion or what anyone believes, because we all believe in something. The song is a very feely, touchy song that speaks about the push and pull of faith, the feelings that reside when you’re in worship vs when you’re not. It talks about the motion of an everyday Sunday. It can be a personal song for anyone who has any connection with religion and faith.” – Josie Randle, Adptd
Adptd is composed of Josie Randle (Singer, Song-writer, Guitarist, Producer) a woman of color who is, in fact, adopted with a story to tell. She has had the pleasure of collabing with many friends and musicians globally as she has created this unique, emotive, alternative rock record in the Adptd Studio (aka bedroom). The debut EP ‘Bedroom Walls’, which will follow after a series of singles and visual representation, truly reflects off the walls themselves.
Adptd draws her ambient, yet heavy musical sound from a love of 2000s emo rock, top 40 hits, and many other current artist within the pop/rock, pop-punk, and hardcore scene. Though Adptd may be a new project for her, she is no stranger to touring and being in a band as you may be familiar with her previous 3 piece Eye the Realist. With Adptd you can expect raw vulnerability with a focus on the deep feelings of anxiety, depression, political racism and how those experiences collectively impact one’s mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Tell us about the genesis of your project. How did you get to where you are now?
I’ve been in the music scene for quite some time now, not only as a musician playing in previous bands and touring but also as a booking agent. After my previous band split up, I definitely took a break from the music hustle and just dabbled with writing here and there. It wasn’t until the year of the Pandemic, in 2020 that I really hunkered down in my bedroom studio and wrote these songs that’ll all be on my upcoming EP, ‘Bedroom Walls’. (February 25th, 2022). I focused on so many aspects of my art it really allowed me to grow as an artist and person.
What should a song or piece of art communicate in your opinion?
Emotion.
Who were your top 3 artists last year?
Holding Absence, Capstan, and Silverstein.
What do you do when you’re feeling uninspired?
I try to collaborate, or co-write with others to gain inspiration. Or maybe I’ll flip through samples on splice and see if something vibes that allows me to hear the bigger picture.
What are your 2022 projects and goals?
Play a string of West Coast shows and continue to release new music.
Favorite movie or TV show?
One of my favorite movies is Orange County or School of Rock.
Tell us about your latest release and how it came about.
My newest song, Believe it or Not is centered around religion, faith, and personal feelings about it. We all have something or someone we believe in. It may shape who we are, define us or even cast a certain light into our lives about what and how we believe in what that may be.
What is something you would want to change in the music and entertainment industry?
Exclusion and politics.
Can you outline your creative process?
My creative process can differ song to song, but I tend to focus on the music, production first, then move to vocals and retouch the music to make sure it relates to the lyrics and emotions.
Who inspires your style and aesthetics?
I listen to a bit of everything, and try to incorporate it into my music, but the early 00’s I think holds a special place in my heart.
What is the achievement or moment in your career you are the most proud of and why?
I would say being able to book and go on tour of the States. In my previous band we were able to do quite a bit of touring. It’s such a fun and humbling experience. You can live outside the norm and not be restricted to the general rule of life at home. It’s just different. The people you meet, the experiences you deal with, the ups and downs. Not everyone gets the opportunity to do it, and it’s not for everyone but if you can do it, do it at least once.
What do you think an artist should sing about nowadays?
It’s definitely up to the artist, but i think we all write about whatever is going on in our personal lives, and emotions we feel. Inspiration strikes us all in different ways. No one should tell an artist what to sing about.
Do you have any regrets?
I mean, I’m sure there might be 1 but, none that I can think of at the moment. Everything in life is an experience to learn from.
What is some piece of advice you would give to yourself right now?
Always give more time than what you think is enough to those around you who mean the most to you.
