Eva Lazarus is best known for the expert navigation of musical moods through her larger-than-life vocals. The R&B songstress now returns with her delectable new offering ‘How Am I Looking?’. Produced by Dirty Dike (Rag N Bone Man, Ocean Wisdom), the track is a self-love and self-care anthem that combines empowering lyrics with a soothing soundscape.
Eva certainly finds joy in dexterity, spontaneity, and experimentation. She just never felt satisfied expressing herself via any one single genre. Shifting the momentum when a crowd or session demands it is the precise sweet spot in which she thrives, and while the results are often kaleidoscopic (and completely delicious when plated up correctly), Eva recognises the need for continuity when delivering entire album works. Subsequently, she is entering into a new chapter on her creative quest, one driven by career-defining sounds.
Tell us about your story as an artist:
I love performing, I’m in my element when I’m on stage.
I love the feeling I get from writing something and seeing it connect at a show.
At the start all I ever wanted to do was to write vocals for all the different genres I obsessed over as a kid. Somehow I’ve ended up with a career doing exactly that.
Living that multi genre dream life.
What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?
Maintaining balance for my son. Nothing is more important than him.
I’m about to go and perform in a theatre production ‘Kid X’ and they have been so accommodating.
I’ve arranged for the family to be with me for the 3 week tour.
I feel like it’s important to bring him to as many creative spaces as I can.
I want him to be included as much as possible.
What makes this song special in your opinion?
I wrote it about the Black hair care and self love experience, aside from that the song is a vibe and people can be empowered and catch good energies from it regardless of race.
What inspired this track?
Representation in lyrics really means a lot to me.
Whenever a Black artist talks about loving features of their Blackness I live!

I love my hair, I love who I am and where I come from, I wanted to celebrate that.
What are some of the core messages here?
Fresh braids will have you feeling yourself differently.
Afros are a flex, they’re expensive.
Mind your business & keep your fingers out of Black peoples hair.
How do you think tik tok and social media are contributing to change an artist’s career?
I think having a good grasp on your social media is key now especially if you’re an independent artist, connecting with your fans directly is the one!
Tiktok and music has been really interesting to see it develop, I love that artists are testing their material on the platform and randomly something will just blow up.
Seeing how huge that Sam Tompkins/Jnr Choi – ‘to the moon’ song got is incredible.
What excites you about your life?
That I could change things up at any moment because I am my own boss.
I get to have big ideas, to powerfully design the space I’m in.
I have so much to look forward to professionally and personally, I don’t know what’s coming or when but I know it’s going to be fucking great and experienced with people I love.
