Pop singer-songwriter Stewart Taylor drops his latest catchy single, “Maybe We Shouldn’t Talk” and it’s bound to be the song of the summer! Being a song about breaking ties with an ex-boyfriend, it’s perfect for Pride Month, inspiring listeners to prioritize themselves first over messy relationships. With crisp, commercial production, along with intricate pop and R&B riffs, the sound alludes to artists like Maroon 5 and Charlie Puth, which is fitting as Stewart Taylor has collaborated with Puth in the past. The two met at Berklee College Of Music after hitmaker Kara DioGuardi paired them up to write and record together.

What inspired this last release?
My ex boyfriend actually inspired the release of my new single. A few months into the pandemic my ex called me and had some pretty derogatory things to say to me. When I hung up on him I had knots in my stomach and I immediately wrote down the title Maybe We Shouldn’t Talk. A few weeks later I was able to book a session over FaceTime with my co-writer Charlie Snyder and my long-time producer John Silos (since we couldn’t do in person sessions yet). I stopped talking to my ex for a while after that. Fast forward over a year later and my ex actually really likes the song I wrote about him!
What is something you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my cat Hank, Lady Gaga, and songwriting.
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
Besides the fact that my entire disastrous relationship with my ex inspired all my lyrics, something no one else knows is that my cat Hank is a secret co-writer on the song too. For obvious reasons, I’ve never been able to bring a cat to a writing session. But since I was doing the session over FaceTime my cat Hank was involved in the entire process! He sat by my side and offered some meows of encouragement in between takes. It wouldn’t have been the same song without him. Haha.
What’s your favorite thing to do besides music?
Besides music I’m really into film and acting. I stopped acting when I turned eighteen to focus on my music career. During the pandemic I started taking acting classes again because I missed it so much. I’ve also been behind a camera filming everything since I was a teenager as well, so it comes as no surprise that I love working with directors while making my music videos.
What’s a record or artist that shaped your creativity?
Madonna has inspired me since I was a little kid. Her video Ray Of Light was the first music video I ever remember watching and since then she’s given me endless inspiration. Confessions On A Dance Floor is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
Lady Gaga has always felt like my soulmate. I just love and adore her and our generation is lucky to have her talent.
What excites you the most about what you do?
The most exciting part about what I do is watching my lyrics come to life on film and through dance. I write songs to process what is going on in the world around me, and watching experiences I’ve had turn into music videos with movement and dance is something that never stops being magical to me.
