After sitting on “Not Like Other Girls” for a few years, a change in the chord progression “allowed for there to be more whimsy and tongue in cheek humor in the track by lyrically starting out being what every man dreams of, then moving to a warning in the chorus.” Ellie adds, “This song has one of my favorite lyrics on the EP: ‘make all your friends turn to envious wrecks as they question the dogmas they bark.'”

Speaking on the FORBIDDEN FRUIT EP, Ellie shares, “This EP is both for the haters and the trans gods/goddesses/royalty.” The EP title borrows themes from the Garden of Eden and plays around with “the idea that trans people are forbidden – whether in sports, politics, general life, love, etc. So many people (the majority of which are cis) have LOTS to say about trans people. So, why not talk back for once?” With the EP coming out during Pride Month, Ellie’s sharing such a strong message!

“‘Not Like Other Girls’ is a song about playing into the male fantasy of being the perfect trans girlfriend, but then ripping off the disguise to reveal the truth: that trans women don’t owe men shit, and men will regret it if they keep trying to make it happen.”

“FORBIDDEN FRUIT is an EP filled with thoughts I’ve had but never publicly shared in fear of retaliation – I’ve finally decided to put me first and share my truth, in all its rage and celebration.”
