Thirsty is a fun, flirty self-empowerment pop anthem with a rhythmic sound. Thirsty encourages listeners to not get caught up in the crazy world of Social Media images and “thirst culture”, all while living young, wild, fearless and free. In support of Women’s History Month in March, Ashlee released weekly covers of iconic female songs on her Instagram (watch her cover of Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” here and her cover of Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful here!)

Tell us about Thirsty. What prompted you to be so direct with your new single?

I wanted to make a song relating to social media and how you can be perceived online. “Thirsty” is encouraging to listeners to not get caught up in the crazy world of social media images and “thirst culture”, but to continue doing you. It’s inspirational in the sense that people can perceive you as something from a picture online and be thirsty on you, but online images are all a perception.

What inspired the music video and your overall visuals?

Personally, I always give off barbie vibes and I love my pink LOL. It definitely gives that energy in the single cover. I love glam mixed with swag (cool girl energy). I don’t want to give away too much for the music video, but it’s definitely my favorite I’ve shot yet and I’m excited to share it! Stay tuned!

Self-empowerment is a main theme here. Why do you think it’s important for you to feel that way in your life?

I’m part of a generation of women that can do and be anything they want to be and self empowerment and feeling good about yourself can open many doors to success. Feeling self empowered can change everything.

How do you suggest people and especially young women have a healthy relationship with social media and body stereotypes?

I wrote this song “Thirsty” for this reason: It’s to empower and express the perceptions of social media and how judgmental it can be. It’s not just about how you look and are perceived. I think the best thing for women is to be as authentic as possible and try not to compare yourself to others. You are your own unique individual and that’s what makes you beautiful.

You covered some of your favorite female artists for Women history month. Who are some new female acts you admire these days?

Victoria Monet, Tyla, and Sabrina Carpenter are at the top of my list right now.

Out of all the biggest moments in your life and career, are there one or two you keep dear to your heart more? If so, why?

I would have to say hearing myself on the radio on iHeart FM stations because as an artist it’s something myself and most artists all dream happening for themselves in their career. It’s truly so surreal.

What are some of your goals in life? Both artistically and personally? Best advice you ever got?

I want to become a household name and legend/icon and to build a brand and platform for myself that is global. I can definitely see myself becoming a top 40 pop artist with multi-platinum records, expanding and having major brand partnerships and deals, along with major movie roles. There’s so much I want to do in this industry. The best advice I ever received was to work hard, always put forth your best effort, and be true and authentic to yourself and artistry.

Best advice or feedback you ever got from a fan?

I love my fans and #keators so much! They’re my world and I wouldn’t be here without them. Them saying they believe in me and my music and that they’re always there to support me is so special. Seeing the reactions on social media and when I perform knowing the lyrics to my songs is the best! I love when they tell me how much my music inspires them personally.

What’s next for you after this new release?

Lots of surprises! Stay tuned! So many exciting things to come!
