Alexander White grew up surrounded by his parents’ rock and disco records and his siblings’ love for clubbing, so it made sensation that he spent years carving out a name for himself as a DJ in the electronic music scene. What nobody saw coming was the pivot to country and folk.
Trained on trumpet during his school years, White has always had a strong grasp of music theory, and that foundation now shapes a sound that feels as far from the dancefloor as you can get.
Moving to the countryside in 2018 changed everything for him. Despite a lifelong aversion to country music, settling on his family’s cattle farm on the Barrington Coast gave White a new perspective on the genre and a new creative direction to match.

“You Got Me” is the result. Soft guitars, warm melodies, and a mellow vocal delivery courtesy of collaborator Marty Lofberg make this an easy listen with genuine depth. The song lands somewhere between a more upbeat Jace Everett and the storytelling warmth of Counting Crows, with sweet lyrics and enough heart to make it stick. Lofberg’s voice elevates the track significantly, bringing White’s vision fully to life. If this is what his country era sounds like, it’s a chapter worth paying attention to.
The song is already making its mark. “You Got Me” was featured during the second hour of ABC Radio’s Saturday Night Country this week, and the airplay feels well deserved. Give it a listen.
