Australian disco/dance duo Midnight Pool Party are coming back to us this week with the impassioned disco-dance sounds of new single called ‘TRUTH’. Over the last few months Midnight Pool Party have given us a tidy collection of singles (POTENTIAL, CREAM & NO NAMES) which have been met with much praise and attention from fans and music curators across the globe. The boys have been very determined to get another singleout before the year came to a close, and lucky for us they’ve absolutely nailed that goal. ‘

TRUTH’ takes us on a journey into a disco-inspired world with its infectious grooves, vibrant keys and diva-esque melodies, and as the boys reveal below, they wanted to make a vulnerable banger for the lonely hearts on the dancefloor.“Our last three singles were about having fun, partying and sex, but with this one they wanted to take a slightly different angle in making a vulnerable banger for the lonely hearts on the dancefloor. It’s a song about being in a situation where love for another is not reciprocated, but in a way that it’s about self-love and putting yourself first. Lyrically it takes you on a journey in the verses where you feel helpless to the chorus but then you feel empowered to say “here’s the truth, I can’t wait anymore for you.” -Midnight Pool Party

What’s your story as an artist?

We grew up together in the same area. We both played a show for a friend as the back up band and we just connected and started playing covers in the beginning. Then at some stage, we both wanted to take music more seriously and write and produce music of our own. Fast forward to today, we are making bangers 🙂

What do you want your music to communicate?

All our releases have evolved and changed over time, but ultimately we make dance music inspired by disco, house, R&B, hip hop. We want to be pretty flexible in the sense that some of our songs are just fun, and some are emotional and thought provoking. But ultimately people can interpret our music however they want.

What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?

It can be anything. But mostly from life experiences. It’s not necessarily auto biographical. Sometimes it can be, but sometimes, something as simple as reading something, a visual that has conjured and emotion, or something someone has said to me, or a feeling I have in a split moment can inspire the whole theme of a song.

Who is an artist that you look up to more than others today?

We both have our own influences and artists we look up to. But when it comes to the music we make, our inspirations can be from anyone like Michael Jackson to disclosure. We make dance music, and dance music is vast and can be inspired by so many genres.

What’s the record or artist that made you realize you wanted to be an artist?

Back when we first started making original music, we were heavily inspired by Breakbot. He’s just a total disco funk vibe.

Tell us about your latest release and how it came about

Truth is different from all the releases we have dropped this year. It’s more of an emotional song about self love. We just wanted to try something different.

What inspires your sound?

Oh gosh, so many things. We listen to so much music, and so many artists. We can be inspired by a beat from a modern song, and a melody from a disco song from the 70’s. I think it’s important, when you write, you don’t aim for it to sound completely like another person’s song. That’s important to us, because we are always changing and evolving. The songs we released last year are so different from what we released this year in so many aspects, but it still feels like the “Midnight Pool Party” sound.

What’s your favorite tune of yours?

We both really love “Nonchalant”, it’s just a feel good self love, self hype vibe haha

Where are some things you really want to accomplish as an artist?

Obviously all the big and cool things like playing big festivals, more radio play, tv spots but just growth in general. We want to keep surprising people.

Favourite lyric you ever wrote?

From our song collide “Resentment is a state of mind that I will try to resist. My heart is making sense of time when we try to coexist.”

Was there ever a moment when you felt like giving up?

No. Truly we both have loved making music our whole lives. Yes, sometimes it gets hard, you can have writer’s block, you can get bad feedback, but we’ve grown to understand that we’re not going to please everyone, we just have to be happy with what we do.

What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

As cliche as it sounds, “don’t give up”.

Where do you think the next game changer will be in the music industry and entertainment scene?

Well with all this meta verse talk HAHHAAH it will be interesting if the music scene will penetrate that environment and how music will play apart in that space and future.
