I’Sis is ready for her moment. The 22-year-old rapper is next up out of New Orleans, her music drips with Southern drawl, brash delivery and a melodic twang that sets her apart from the pack. Influences like The Hot Boyz, and Young Money Cash Money inspired her 2021 debut project Welcome To My City, which served as her formal introduction to the genre and led her to ink a deal with Jet Life Recordings after New Orleans hard-hitter Curren$y recognized her undeniable potential. Shortly after, she was featured on JetLife compilation album Welcome To Jet Life Recordings 2 on “Ain’t No Love” with Black Cobain.
Since signing to JetLife, I’Sis has also experienced experienced exciting milestones like performing at Rolling Loud Miami for the first time this year. Now with I’Sis, she wants to further establish herself to fans new and old, laying the bricks for a new era.
What inspired your new project I’Sis?
I wanted to put something out with original beats because I’ve never really dropped with all original beats before. My first project was more of a mixtape, so I wanted to do something different with this project and feature more local artists from my city. My single “Ringtone” is off that project, I just really liked the beat when I heard it. It has a country vibe but with a downtown New Orleans slow sound. For the video I used horses and dirtbikes to add to the country vibe of the city.
What is something you can’t live without?
My phone. When I wake up in the morning that’s the first thing I grab.
Are there any funny stories from the time you were recording the project? Yeah when we were recording, Curren$y came in the studio and he was like “Hold on that’s you?!” and I was like “Yeah!”. He said “Mannn, you gotta put this out!” It was the first time he had seen the “Ringtone” video and heard the song.
What’s your favorite thing to do besides music?
I like to dance! I danced when I was younger and I still dance now, just to mess around.
What’s a record or artist that shaped your creativity?
I’d have to say Beyonce. I also really like Lil Durk and also everyone who was rapping with Young Money. I’m also really inspired by all the old school rappers from New Orleans because they used a lot of our slang and made it sound good musically.
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
Nicki Minaj, of course.
What excites you the most about what you do?
Being able to create. It’s cool for my family to see me on television, being able to do
