Brianna Harness is a force to be reckoned with: she is living proof that tremendous adversity can produce the greatest beauty.

In her latest single, “Lonely,” Brianna taps into a deeper heartbreak; her stunningly soulful voice juxtaposed by painful, longing lyrics. Accompanied by a sultry, moody music video that was released a few weeks prior, fans can now listen to “Lonely” across all DSPs today.

“I wrote ‘Lonely’ this last year after having a crazy few years chasing my dreams,’ Harness explains. “When you’re working non stop trying to get ahead some days you look up and feel all alone.”

“Lonely” is a highly anticipated follow up to Harness’ 2020 debut album, Welcome to My Nightmare, a startlingly mature and diverse collection that draws from her own history and points to a bright future. Welcome to My Nightmare explores a wide range of musical styles, from atmospheric indie rock to a lounge-y, nightclub vibe.

What’s your story as an artist?

I believe I was born an artist, in many different ways. I’ve always been creative and been into music for as long as I can remember, from being in bands in school to painting and theater arts.

I always had a passion for hands on projects , I started my first YouTube at like 12 years old ( which is now deleted due to 12 year old insecurities) but by 13 I was working 2 jobs and in and out of the house by 14 until my dad came home from prison when I was 16 and I moved back in with him at 17.. but it wasn’t until We recorded bad company in 2018 that I started to see a real spot for me and my story in the music industry…

What do you want your music to communicate?

I’ve been through a lot , experienced a lot  .. Most of my family members and friends suffered with either addiction or the pass down of toxic ways from their parents or both. Life has never been easy but it is definitely worth the ride .. I realized at a young age that I had 2 options.. to continue the same bipolar lifestyle and pass it down to my children , or be everything I did have and everything I didn’t .. I just want to communicate that you Aren’t alone , we’re all going through it but it’s solely up to you to create your own reality and I’m here to prove that .

What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?

I love all sources of storytelling and the entertainment that comes with it . I’ve been really into film making and books the last few years. I think movies and music videos that are sensory packed and can tell a perfect story are so powerful and I strive to create them and I also plan to finish writing my poetry book this year to hopefully have it published by next year ..

Who is an artist that you look up to more than others today?

My dad has always been my biggest inspiration in everything I’ve ever done. It’s been cool getting to grow up and watch him grow through his different phases as well.. from selling drugs and going to prison to coming home with a completely different mindset and owning literally nothing to now completely changing our lives and having everything we’ve ever wanted while staying independent the whole time .. He constantly pushes me to be a better Version of myself

What’s the record or artist that made you realize you wanted to be an artist?

I’ve always had the idea in the back of my head but I would say I started knowing Music is what I was going to do when my dad and I  did “ bad company “ in 2018.. the first time I really sang over a mic and from there it lit a flame inside …

Tell us about your latest release and how it came about

My newest release is “ Lonely, “ a song I wrote this year after going through a lot trying to come up in the music industry. You lose most of your friends because you realize they’re only there for how it could benefit them or because they want to enjoy your spotlight as well… It’s very easy to feel like you don’t have anyone who actually understands what you’re going through and “ lonely“ describes just that .

What inspires your sound?

I’ve always went through phases with music with what I actually listen to from growing up on 80s-2000s R&B like Mary J Blige, India arie and Erykah Badu to my dad’s heavy rap background to our southern roots growing up with most the radio stations playing country and our grandparents being country music legends..  I’ve always personally loved rock and metal in doses, I feel like I’ve really created my own sound from the years of different music so it’s hard to pinpoint where my sound is inspired from..

What’s your favorite tune of yours?

The title track off my next album “cowgirls don’t cry” which will be releasing in July this year is the most incredible song I have ever done .. as far as released music I’d have to say “I won’t bitch“ or the rendition I did of my gma Jessi‘s song “the canyon” from my first album welcome to my nightmare

Where are some things you really want to accomplish as an artist?

I’ve already accomplished so many really cool things in just such a short period of time but I’m just getting started , we have some really big shows at the end of this year , I’m performing at red rocks with my dad & dropping my second album , I’m just here for the real experience And the connection with the people who relate to my music …

Favorite lyric you ever wrote?

“ I never seen the potential in myself that everybody else did , not sure if that’s a lack of self love or if I’m the only one who really knows me “

The first verse of Howling at the moon , the first single I released this year really embodied how I had been feeling the last few years with finding myself in the music industry and figuring out who I wanted to be compared to who I was slipping into by surrounding myself around the wrong people who were complacent in the bare minimum…

Was there ever a moment when you felt like giving up?

Yes of course , who doesn’t ? I think we all think about it , we all have moments where we don’t want to be alive and feel like being unconscious would be easier but your lowest moments build character and make you who you are and getting through them dark times is a beautiful feeling ..

What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

I feel like my whole life has been a book of advice from all the wrongs to allll the rights but my dad raised me to be exactly who I am at all times , to always follow my heart regardless of the situation …

Where do you think the next game changer will be in the music industry and entertainment scene?

I’ve seen a lot of pushing for virtual concerts and the meta verse which is something I personally will not take part in. I’m all about real life and real connections , after all – love and the experience is what life is all about ..
