Having ushered in her villain era with the release of her empowering single “When You Say My Name,” Chandler Leighton returns with her collaborative reimagined single “Let It Go” featuring Josh Landry, aka Lø Spirit via Boom Records.

The new single is a result of today’s times and was born from a viral collaboration between Chandler Leighton and Lø Spirit on TikTok. Spirit covered and contributed an angst-ridden verse on Leighton’s “Let It Go,”— resulting in a viral clip with over 1.3M views and booming demand for the latest release.

“Let It Go” packs a heavy punch and showcases both artists’ powerful and passionate vocal prowess as they take a galvanizing nosedive across genres through an alt-pop lens. Ladened with emotionally rich songwriting and delving into their battles with anxiety, depression, and PTSD; both artists share a heavily anticipated and relatable new song that will resonate with listeners. Leighton and Spirit have been vocal about their mental health struggles and are advocates for those who seek help, by using their platforms to share their deeply personal journeys.

Speaking on the track, Chandler Leighton shares, “4 months ago I wrote a song about anxiety, and this insane God-like voice threw a verse on it with absolutely ripping vocals. Josh gave this song an element of anger that I never could” Spirit adds, “Chandler Leighton wrote this brilliant song about anxiety, so I wanted to chime in with a verse about living with PTSD.

What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?

The most important aspect of my life is living a life that is authentic and true to me. Filling my circle with meaningful connections and experience, to truly live because that’s how you create good art. By going outside and talking to strangers, meaningful conversations and surrounding myself with people who have big dreams and ambition. We’re only here for a short time so best to make the most of it.

What makes “When You Say My Name” special in your opinion?

“When You Say My Name” was written 2 weeks after my break up. I came into the studio and told Brennan I was tired of writing sad songs because I didn’t want to feel sad anymore. I wanted to feel empowered and confident. My personality is extroverted and extremely social, and when I go on stage I want to dance and I want the crowd to feel that way too. I want people to embody their sexuality and feel good about themselves. This is that song. To feel damn good about yourself.

What inspired this track?

When I went out to a party, I was just laughing at the way men hit on women, and someone once told me this phrase when you’re dating is that, “you should be less concerned if they like you, and whether or not you like them.” and that stuck with me. So the song is basically about doing the exact same things they do, saying all the right things and then dipping.

What are some of the core messages here?

The core messages are just to tap into your confidence, have fun, and stop taking it all so seriously. The whole “villain era” really just encapsulates not being shy and to step into your god complex and not give a fuck.

What excites you about your life?

Making music with my best friends, and working on my healing. I love working out and doing breathing work and ice baths. I think it’s super important to take care of your mental health and your body because it’s the only one you’re going to have for the rest of your life. Working out your mind and showing up for yourself as the woman I want to be excites me. I need to keep moving, and learning to love myself. Your outward look on life becomes more meaningful. To experience life, and not let it experiment on you.
