Chico’s story is equally impressive. Born in Panama and raised in Atlanta, Chicocurlyhead brings a unique blend of R&B, alt-pop, and hip-hop with a Latin soul, effortlessly switching between English and Spanish. Becoming a professional musician, however, was never a part of Chico’s original plan. In fact, he had dreams of becoming a pro-soccer player. It wasn’t until he spontaneously uploaded a track which blew up on SoundCloud, convincing Chico to give up a full soccer scholarship and pursue music full-time.
Last month, he received the 2024 LAMC Discovery Award (whose past recipients include music stars Nathy Peluso, Carla Morrison, Ile, Jesse Baez, Buscabulla, A. Chal, among others) and was also a featured performer at the conference in NYC. Chico just dropped a new EP Neverending Roadtrip and recently appeared on New York public radio WNYC’s “All of It”(Listen Here).
“This song was really about showing up for someone when they need you , the process of this song was probably the smoothest ever, I was singing to my son while I was showering him and the hook for this song came out while I was freestyling. To have Yuna join me on the track made the song even better.”
