LA alt-pop group Cosmo Gold announce their much-anticipated debut album, Krong: a record, yes, but also an intergalactic sonic experience, and invitation to an alternate universe. Welcome to ‘Krong’ – a place to find comfort in doubt as a virtue. A self-aware, almost-utopia that sheds light on the humanness of hesitancy. Because they say, ‘follow your heart’ – but what if your heart is wrong? In their debut album, Cosmo Gold explore an alternate universe built around this question.
What makes this song special in your opinion?
This was the first song that we as a band said “fuck it, let’s write a straight up pop song”, since that wasn’t in our wheelhouse at the time. I don’t know if it came out that way but the intention behind it really steered the rest of the album, vibe wise.
What is the lyrical content inspired by?
The lyrics were inspired by our collective romantic experiences. It’s about being at that point in a relationship where you can sense impending doom, where what once felt so familiar now feels foreign but the distance is something that’s only felt and not spoken about. Sometimes being lonely in a relationship is harder than being lonely and alone.
How do you keep yourself inspired?
Allowing myself to be bored, dreaming, going for walks. Creative downloads only happen when I give them the space.
What was your first exposure to music?
I was incredibly fortunate to grow up in a musical household. My dad was a musician and we had a studio in the house. There are photos of me “playing” drums in my diapers.
What excites you about your life?
Krong, mainly.
How would you describe your style in one word?
Krong.
What are your next moves?
We are releasing our album, ‘Krong’, on 11.11 and aim to spend next year spreading the good word of Krong on the road (shows TBA).
