Gloriously dark Polish -via-Dublin electronic diva producer conjures up emotional introspective sketches writing them in a woodland hut during lock down.

Dublin based artist Dorota Konchevska, began her career as a jazz singer and has evolved into a multifaceted artist & producer, capable of breathtaking feets of alchemy that fuses her ethereal vocals with leftfield electronic music.

Dorota’s creation reveals a strong and tender heart beneath, pulsating with raw emotion and abstract thinking. She is not walking on the safe side of the commercial music industry. Dorota says: “ Every day you have 24 hours to choose your own adventure: from morning to night. “

Dorota splits Jazz and electronic identities , both manifested in her songwriting and production. While her collaborators largely consist of lush gifted jazzers, dancers and other wild birds from all around the globe, the themes of her records are undeniably rooted in her spiritual practice.

How did you get to where you are now?

The ideas behind the single first took shape When I took a refuge in the forest cottage at the beginning of the pandemic. Facing continuity of a recent world in disarray, I found that a multitude of new reflections needed expression. I pondered on how to embrace change in a turbulent internal landscape. It’s a calling for reclaiming  of our connection with nature and what is and the most fundamental vibrating note of it all

which is love : )

What should a song or piece of art communicate in your opinion?

I think whatever is the honest concern of the artist . It would be lovely if in the current global state all would be writing stuff along the lines of “Imagine there’s no heaven , It’s easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us, only sky, Imagine all the people Living’ for today uuuhuuuuu..| BUT saying this if somebody has an urgent need of writing stuff along the lines of “My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard “ they will and it is what it is and it’s all good there must be yin for every yang. Otherwise we would not have a yin yang 😀

I’m trying to live by the quote of a wonderful Malcolm X , which goes :” Don’t be in a hurry to condemn because he doesn’t do what you do or think as you think or as fast. There was a time when you didn’t know what you know today.” So yeah … I would love it if ppls creation would assist in the workability of this planet but everybody’s free to create what they want from the place at any given moment . whatever is important for somebody’s heart . and I’m good with it .

Who were your top 3 artists last year?

Alice Coltrane, Ablaye Cissoko and Titi Robin.

What do you do when you’re feeling uninspired?

I kinda always feel inspired by somebody or something 😀 …but usually if I cannot create, I just need to address whatever’s bothering me and sometimes a snooze and some food helps instantly 😀

What are your 2022 projects and goals?

Live, love, make music , make visual art , Hug trees, walk the mountains , swim in the sea ,laugh, cook,  hug and stuff like that …

Favorite movie or TV show?

Gosh I’m such a movie snob lol … there are sooo many of them … Night on Earth (1991) Directed by Jim Jarmusch.

Tell us about your latest release and how it came about

As I mentioned before It was lockdown and I took refuge in this forest hut and I had a lot of thoughts to express. I felt that the world is undergoing a rapid shift of values and I had to write sth about that .

What is something you would want to change in the music and entertainment industry?

If I had a magic wand I would change into a frog ppl that used and abused Amy Winehouse or Adele and those amazing stars that are falling victim to some huge money making monstrosity…

I would get rid of racism …greed… lies

Definitely would dream of a  more fair retribution to artists and writers by the streaming services. Streaming royalties are still way too low.

Can you outline your creative process?

Always it starts with some theme that touches me deeply and I have to “ tell people about it “ throughout my art. Be it music or a visual art… and then I use different mediums and skills to do so 😀 ! It’s never the same but quite often it starts with the melody and some lyrics put against some simple beat .. then I slowly start adding some instrumentations and trying not to leave it for too long so I’m working on it when it’s still “ hot”.

Who inspires your style and aesthetics?

Huma Bhabha. She is this  Pakistani-American Sculptor. She is so cool and whatever she creates is bloody strong.  Production Wise I would dream about producing like guys from Maribou State… they produce so good … it’s incredible what they make with the sound … I’m also so inspired by the production of Blood orange and style and general vibe…I love that lad …

What do you think an artist should sing about nowadays?

I think about whatever is “touching” their heart honestly.

Do you have any regrets?

No . Not anymore. I put a lot of work into getting where I am with my head and at this stage I regret nothing.

What is some piece of advice you would give to yourself right now?

  1. Everything is the way it is supposed to be.  2 Patience young Jedi 😀
