Finnish pop artist Ina Forsman is ecstatic to release her brand new album All There Is, available now wherever music is sold or streamed via Jazzhaus Records. The release of All There Is was preceded by the singles “Love Me”, “Poor Heart” and “Don’t Lose Today”. To celebrate the album’s release, Ina Forsman has also dropped the music video for her latest single “Love Me”
Ina Forsman, a Berlin-based singer influenced by Etta James and Christina Aguilera, presented herself as a promising vocalist on her sophomore albumBeen Meaning To Tell You (2019) and her eponymous debut album Ina Forsman (2016). Throughout her new album All There Is, she maintains those earlier influences while coming into her own.
All There Is is rooted in the romantic aura of the 1960s, a sound that makes no secret of her commitment to old school soul and jazz. Ina Forsman was inspired by the era’s romantic songs that had a cinematic flair, so she chose to stick with a concept she calls“cinematic soul”. Ina’s powerful presence on each track gives All There Is a contemporary perspective on the sixties and seventies.
What inspired this last release?
My new album All There Is was inspired by 60s & modern retro filled cinematic and psychedelic soul. Stories in the songs are about that big life changing love, as well as deep inner struggles, battling ego and finding one’s truest purpose.
What is something you can’t live without?
On a deep level: Performing and singing. On a vague level: My new noise canceling headphones (lol)
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
The album was created during a quite dark period of my life so not too many funny stories, haha. I mean, most of the process was happening during the first year of the pandemic and Berlin was under a heavy lockdown, so really, no funny stories I can recall, just surviving and creating music in unsolicited solitude.
What’s your favorite thing to do besides music?
I like to bedazzle my show outfits; sewing and gluing beads and rhinestones everywhere. I love all kinds of crafty stuff, especially if it involves something that shines or glitters. I also love to be in nature; camping, kayaking and hiking, although I don’t get to do it nearly as much as I would like to.
What’s a record or artist that shaped your creativity?
Honestly at this point I don’t know. With this album I worked so much on myself and what kind of musician and songwriter I wanted to be, that I didn’t look much elsewhere for inspiration, at least on an individual level.
This was the first album where I wrote all the songs by myself, so most of the process was just me alone in my room on my keyboard, figuring out who I am musically. No reference songs, no conscious inspiration artists that I tried to follow, just me and my intuition, trying to figure it out.
As I’m diving deeper in my musical journey, right now I find myself listening to music with different ears than a few years ago. So my answer to this question will probably be a lot different a few years from now.
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
I look up to all the independent artists doing their own thing! Giving their all on building their career with little to no help, trying to keep their head above the water and keep creating music that they believe in. Music today is so disposable and the industry is very fast-paced.
Without a big machine behind you, you have to be a whole team by yourself. I look up to anyone who can do that, while still creating art wholeheartedly.
What excites you the most about what you do?
Continuous growth. Learning to trust the process and following your intuition. Still struggling with it, but knowing I get better at it all the time. Learning to play instruments one day is so good I’ll have the nerve to play on the stage, ha! I’m excited about what kind of artist I’m becoming.
