At only 16, Daya emerged as an extraordinary new pop voice with her breakthrough first two singles, “Hide Away” and “Sit Still, Look Pretty,” both of which earned RIAA platinum certification while rising to the top 30 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” and earning a combined 850M worldwide streams and counting. Daya celebrated the success of her debut album, Sit Still, Look Pretty, opening for the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen and MARINA, and sold out dates on her own headlining national tour.
The following year saw the Pittsburgh, PA-native star ascend even higher with The Chainsmokers’ 9x platinum certified blockbuster, “Don’t Let Me Down (Ft. Daya),” a top 3 smash in the US and top 10 favorite around the world boasting over 1.8B YouTube views, as well as a GRAMMY® Award winner for “Best Dance Recording.”
Produced by The Gifted (Tate McRae, Kygo), “Love You When You’re Gone” marks the first single from Daya’s eagerly anticipated new EP, due later this year. Sensual and atmospheric yet still playfully groove-intensive, the track details the fascinating duality of missing someone when they’re out of your life yet being uncertain whether you miss the actual person or merely the comfort of their presence.
‘’Love You When You’re Gone’ was written in a period of time when I was experiencing overwhelming feelings of loneliness and nostalgia,” says Daya about today’s release. “I found myself romanticizing a past relationship in a way that was almost willfully forgetting the reality of why it didn’t work out in the end.
I realized part of the reason I was holding on to the relationship for so long was because I was scared to face who I’d be and what my life would be like without it, and so it’s about trying to let all that go and give myself the space and freedom to grow on my own.”
