Tell us your story
At heart I’m a child of Motown, 60’s Psychedelic Rock & Soul, damn near anything 90’s and the many sounds of the diaspora that connect me to my ancestors of Africa. I used to listen to vinyl with my dad as a kid; it was around then I began to feel the tug of expression overtake my soul as I discovered new artists who spoke the story of my life in their music. Singing was always a part of my being, but I wrote my first song at 14 years old and never turned back.
What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?
The most important aspects of my life right now are the practices I put in place to keep me grounded as so many changes are occurring around me.
What makes “Take Your Time” special, in your opinion?
Take Your Time is special because aside from being a record you can buss a whine to, it also reminds you to take your time with life. There’s no shortage of demands that arrive daily to challenge my peace, but it’s my choice to set boundaries and have patience with myself as I persist on the journey.
What inspired this track?
There’s both simplicity and depth to the backstory of this one. I just recently moved down to Atlanta and began connecting with some great people in the event planning, curation and promotion space (N.U.E. Atlanta) where I was welcomed with open arms to their Afro-Caribbean community. In the process of partying and celebrating life I found myself inspired by the movement and freedom of our people. Next thing you know, “Take Your Time” and a host of other songs you’ve yet to hear were born.
