Asbury Park native Honey Bxby is carving out her own lane in R&B with a sound she dubs chaotic R&B—a fusion of ’90s neo-soul nostalgia, brassy street smarts, and straight-shooting honesty. Raised on influences like Drake, Alicia Keys, and Kehlani, the singer-songwriter delivers heart-stirring anthems with rich, honey-laced vocals and undeniable bad-bitch energy. Her debut EP, 3 Words, 8 Letters, introduced her genre-blending style, followed by Touchin’: The Pack, a collection of remixes of her breakout single.
She’s continued her momentum with standout tracks like “LEFT EYE,” an ode to fiery, no-nonsense love. Honey has since hit the road for two national tours with Sexyy Redd and Flyana Boss, made her TV debut at the 2023 BET Soul Train Awards, and released the deluxe edition of her EP, which preceded her latest version of “Touchin’” featuring Capella Grey. With new single “Left Eye” gaining traction and more music on the way, Honey Bxby isn’t just rising—she’s taking over.
Your lyrics are known for being raw and deeply personal. What experiences inspired the tracks on your upcoming EP, Raw Honey?
Real-life experiences: each track talks about something completely different. These are all things that I’ve gone through or emotions that I feel or felt.
Your performance at the BET Soul Train Awards was a showstopper. How did it feel to have that moment on such a huge stage?
It was such a real moment for me to be able to knock out such a big accomplishment so early on in my career. When I was younger, I used to dream about performing on TV at an award show, and to have finally done it is crazy.
Your song “LEFT EYE” went viral after your On The Radar performance. What was it like watching that track take off, and why do you think it resonated with so many people?
Because everybody at one point in their life had somebody play with their feelings and bring out a certain emotion or a certain side of them that makes you see red. I feel like “LEFT EYE” is the song to get that emotion out and feel it unapologetically.
You’re joining SAINt JHN’s Festival Season Tour with a stop at the Brooklyn Paramount. How does performing in New York feel compared to other cities?
Honestly, anywhere I perform feels good. I’m from Jersey, so anytime I’m performing in New York or anywhere in that area. It always feels like home. But it’s not that different performing in any other city because the vibes are always there.
You’ve received praise from legends like Mary J. Blige and Busta Rhymes. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from them?
To just continue to do me and be myself and not get caught up in anything. Tunnel vision is all that matters.
Your music has been described as “girl’s night anthem energy.” When you’re creating, do you set out to craft songs that empower and hype up your audience?
Of course, all in all, I do want people to have a good time when they’re listening to my music or be able to heal when listening to me, depending on what they’re listening to.
With over 35 million streams and a growing fanbase, how has your journey from New Jersey to the national stage shaped your artistry?
It’s been great so far, but I still have so much work to do. I’m still working and striving to be the biggest artist in the world.
R&B is constantly evolving. How do you see yourself redefining the genre, and who are your biggest influences?
By continuing to be me and speak on the topics the way that I do- unapologetically and unfiltered. Never be scared to speak on anything. My biggest influences are definitely Drake and Kehlani; I’m also a Disney kid, so definitely Miley Cyrus.
The title Raw Honey suggests something both sweet and unfiltered. How does that duality play into your sound and storytelling?
I have such a sweet voice with very unfiltered words; it literally describes my project, and I can’t wait for everybody to hear it so they can feel it for themselves.
What can fans expect from this tour stop and from Raw Honey when it drops in April? Any surprises in store?
I want people to have a good time when they see me on stage and when they hear my music during this tour, and I want fans to expect the unexpected when it comes to my project dropping this spring. A few surprises, but you’ll just have to wait and see.
