New York’s own alt-rock-electronic duo Howl, comprised of multi-instrumentalists, singers, composers, and producers Aidan Dolan and Nicola Wincenc, return with their captivating new single, “Million Ways To Break.” The track, out today, is a hypnotic blend of melancholic yet infectious beats, exploring the conflict between living in the moment and the inevitable fallout of relationships.
Following the intense, cyberpunk-tinged “The Kill,” Howl’s latest release shows a softer, more reflective side of the duo. “‘Million Ways To Break’ is about the conflicted feelings surrounding romance,” explains Nicola Wincenc. “It’s not about one specific relationship but about the feeling of wanting to have a good time and not worry about how love can go wrong – because it does most of the time.”
Aidan Dolan adds, “The song has a melancholic but forceful sound, showcasing a different side of us musically. It’s still intense, but it’s more vulnerable, more like a song rather than an anthem.”
Produced by 10x GRAMMY®-nominated producer Damian Taylor (known for his work with Bjork, The Prodigy, Arcade Fire, and The Killers), “Million Ways To Break” encapsulates Howl’s knack for fusing gritty New York edge with cinematic, larger-than-life soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from iconic films like **The Matrix, Blade, and Fight Club**, the track moves through dark, layered beats reminiscent of **Nine Inch Nails, The Crystal Method, and Depeche Mode**, yet still maintains a distinctly modern electronic polish.
With infectious energy and emotive depth, “Million Ways To Break” is an anthem for those caught between the thrill of falling in love and the looming fear of what happens when the spark inevitably fades.
