Rising star and recording artist Iris Gold welcomes you back into her world of ‘hippie hop’ as she continues her journey to collaborate with Award winning singer, songwriter, musician, producer and Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart on her latest single, Lover of My Own.

The recording for Lover of My Own was completed at Stewart’s Bay Street Records Recording Studio in the Caribbean and will be released under Stewart’s famed Bay Street Records imprint on 29th October 2021. Describing the single, Gold comments “I’m a natural born flirt but I give it all to my audience now, tiger style. I razzle and dazzle then say bye bye cause I got someone waiting back home, yeah I got a Lover of My Own.”

Gold, born in London but raised in Denmark, quickly made noise in the music industry, attracting attention from stars as diverse as Miguel, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift, and Robbie Williams. Elle Magazine recently noted about Iris’ magical musical powers: “Iris Gold has got it all – The looks & the charm to take over the world.”

What’s your story as an artist?

I grew up in an autonomous commune in Copenhagen, with a very liberal, free-thinking anything-goes culture. I was surrounded by hippy counter-culture and the sounds of he 60’s and 70’s, until one of my auntys friends introduced her to some classic hip-hop. So thats why my music sounds the way it does – hippiehop

What inspired this single?

The need to celebrate self-love!

Its all about being free of inhibitions. I give my audience my all. Flirt a little keeps you high….but i know when to switch it off, because I have someone at home who is special (myself)

What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?

lifes ups and downs, the people around me, love, music and conversations

Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing the album?

It was valentinesday and i turned up in an all red outfit and a red wig.

Thats when my alter ego Vilva Flame was born. She is quite naughty and cheeky and has a vers on my track “girl pick up your drum”. She has her own insta account too so go follow her @vilvaflame

Tell us about the music video and the idea behind it ?

As a black female singer and rapper, I have often been told I should stick to a particular visual genre, which sucks cause we are so much more. I see many artists being pigeonholed, but I also see some amazing artists that are free and experiment. I’m one of those. I love fantasy in every sense of the word. As a little girl, I was obsessed with drawing princesses in fairytale dresses. I didn’t see many princesses who looked like me growing up, so in this video, I could finally fulfil that fantasy.

What’s a record that shaped your creativity?

Beck – New Pollution. I first heard this in my uncle’s living room. I pretty much for a long time wanted to be a female Beck (now i wanna be iris gold). It has influenced me so much! It’s the ultimate hip-hop hippy track, which I’m all about. And the video is so so dope! The memory of my uncle with a spliff and a cowboy hat singing the track to me pretending to be Beck still is hilarious.

Who is an artist or band you look up to today?

Lil Nas X. So refreshing! What an icon. Here in Denmark you see alot of rappers on the cowboy flex. He has definitely inspired a lot of artists to just be who they are.

Any future projects?

Well i’m releasing my album i wrote and recorded with my friend dave stewart in the caribbean. I will be touring and promoting it way into next year.

Im so excited about releasing this new music! It has been like a diamond in my life, working on it with Dave .

Top 3 dream collaborations?

Andre 3000

Lizzo

Lil nas x

What does music mean to you?

one of my favourite things is performing my music and vibing with the audience,, there really is no other feeling quite like it

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

My music is like a bumble bee sitting on a flower sniffing honey with betty davis and lizzo and then hendrix comes along and smells it and is like yeaaah smells like Miss Gold
