Opening the track soft synths progress to rumbling bas lines laying the perfect foundation for REGAL’s distinctive and honeyed tones. A dark pop anthem powered by positive affirmations the rising talent sings “I am the best thing that’s ever happened to me” in the song’s catchy chorus. In the accompanying music video REGAL brings us into an Italianate style mansion north of London with a rich literary history, having been home to both Beatrix Potter of the Peter Rabbit books and Dame Barbara Cartland, the queen of romance novels. REGALJASON, a writer himself, partnered with award winning short film director Oliver Crawford to bring the viewer into a world where characters of various cultural identities, ages, and abilities can be seen sharing their talents, beauty, and wealth while living together in harmony. Dressed in modern interpretations of royal fashions throughout history, each character can be seen in their own rooms of the estate honing their crafts before coming together for a feast of joint treasures.
“Similarly to how I developed the lore behind my artistic persona, REGALJASON, I wrote “I Am” in a time where I needed to continually remind myself of my worth and my dream. To sing along is to challenge yourself to believe in your ability fully despite the doubt and insecurity fed to us by the societies we participate in. “I Am” is both a love letter and a battle cry. I wanted to create a video where people of diverse backgrounds could see regal representations of themselves in all their glory owning and celebrating their identities”
