To Los Angeles native, pop singer/songwriter, Casey Baer, music is therapy. Her lyrics are about heartbreak, mental health, and growing up; making it easy for her fans to relate to. Casey’s catchy choruses along with her strong vocal range match the pop-rock vibe of her music. Baer, 21, is also a big advocate for mental health and is dedicated to helping break the stigma attached to it. Casey’s upcoming debut EP is being executive produced by singer/songwriter Sophie Simmons (F-up the Friendship 30+million streams). Casey is about to embark on her first US tour for 34 shows with Jesse McCartney in Spring 2022.

What’s your story as an artist?

Music has been my therapy growing up, especially through some difficult teenage years! When I didn’t have the words to express myself I was able to put my feelings into lyrics. I write about my experiences, feelings and relationships as I go through them. Hopefully other people can relate to these stories and know that whatever they are feeling, they’re not alone.

What inspired this last release?

R.I.P. is about my tragic love life and how I’ve decided to stop trying so hard to find the perfect guy, because it feels like all the good ones are taken.

Do you get inspired by other art forms?

I’m absolutely inspired by other art forms. I love art in general! I really love modern art. I love how people can have such different interpretations of the same piece, very much like music.

Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?

Well, at the time we weren’t laughing about it but, In the middle of recording R.I.P. the computer totally crashed and we were literally almost done! we thought we lost everything, but luckily it was backed up!!

What’s your favorite place or environment to write?

I love writing in a studio with other writers. Over the past two years everyone has had to do a lot of sessions over zoom due to the pandemic, but nothing replaces the feeling of writing in a studio. The connection you have with a co-writer and producer is person is deeper and definitely more fun!

What’s a record that shaped your creativity?

Hands down, when Justin Bieber released his Purpose album it changed my life! I was really struggling with anxiety and I connected to the lyrics in a way that made me focus on my purpose. It was the first time I can remember anyone, especially someone so famous spoke so openly about their struggles. I spent years hiding my anxiety because it wasn’t an open conversation like it has become today.

Who is an artist or band you look up to today?

There are so many artists I relate to and connect with their music. A few of my current favs are Mimi Webb, Tate McCrae, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Avril Lavigne and of course Justin Bieber. I could go on….

What excites you the most about what you do ?

What excites me most about making music is being able to connect with people and make them feel like they are never alone. I remember how I felt when I didn’t know other people had anxiety and being able to be honest and let people know it’s ok not to feel ok. It’s amazing how far the conversation about mental health has come. It’s also incredible to be able to have people relate to the relationship struggles you go through. I love when I connect with other artists music, it helps me with what I’m feeling. Music is the great equalizer!

What is your view on genres and music styles since you mix a lot of them in your music?

Thank you for recognizing that. I love so many genres and I have different times that I listen to all of them. It’s all based on my mood and even the weather or season. Like for me country music in the summer is such a vibe! I’m always down to listen to any kind of music and I love to mix it up depending on the topic I’m writing to help get the mood across.

What does music and art mean to you.

Music is my art, it is the best way of expressing myself. It’s also a great healing process for me. Recently I wrote a song that I cried while writing and recording it in the studio with Sophie Simmons, who is the executive producer of my project. It was the day after a relationship I was in ended and the emotions were so fresh. I remember Sophie and Mike Fatkin, the producer saying how people will really be able to relate the raw emotions. They both made me feel so safe to be able to truly express how I felt.

How would you describe your act in one word?
