Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mae Mae has shared her new single “Peach,” available to stream on all DSPs worldwide. The song is a playful indie-pop tale about missing your hometown, while simultaneously wanting to distance yourself.
“I wrote Peach trying to sort through my feelings on growing up in the south,” says MaeMae. “On one hand, I’ve always felt a sense of pride in my upbringing. There’s a charm about the people and communities that I realize now is hard to come by. On the other hand, there’s a lot about the south that I’d prefer to leave behind. I struggle with missing it, and simultaneously wanting to get as far away as possible from it.”
What is the primary inspiration for “Peach?”
Peach is about my upbringing in the south and feeling a lot of nostalgia around it but also acknowledging how those same things have driven me away from it. I’ve come to realize through a lot of moving around in search of “better places”, that the grass is ALWAYS greener and home is just a state of mind.
What makes this song special in your opinion?
The song is special in that I feel like it embodies my childhood in Georgia perfectly and paints a picture that’s easy for people to see themselves in. The drums, the piano, the bass – all of it together feels nostalgic and vulnerable while also being playful and sarcastic.
What is your first memory of being musical?
Hearing Brandi Carlile for the first time and wanting to immediately learn how to play the guitar in order to write songs.
What excites you about living a life focused on music?
The thought of creating more music. 🙂
How would you describe Mae Mae’s sound in one word?
Alt pop gold 😉
When can we expect an album or EP?
I’ll definitely be releasing more singles off the EP starting at the top of 2023, hopefully the whole ep will follow shortly after!
