Tell us about the genesis of your project
It definitely takes dedication and hard work. Always practicing my vocals, writing, and recording, whether it was cover songs in the past or currently my originals. A little over a year ago I found my amazing team, Matt Kahane and Quin Kiu, and since then I’ve been working on releasing original music. I’m still working hard at it but it pays off when I end up releasing a song that I absolutely love.
What should a song or piece of art communicate in your opinion?
A song should communicate your feeling, or mental state. You’re probably not alone in feeling a certain way or you may be going through something that others went through, and writing a song is an outlet for that.
Who were your top 3 artists last year?
Madison Beer, The weekend, Nessa Barrett
What do you do when you’re feeling uninspired?
When I feel uninspired I usually try to take it easy, hang out with my friends and have fun. Sometimes taking that time for yourself might give you more energy and inspiration later on.
What are your 2022 projects and goals?
My goals are to just keep writing and releasing music. Hopefully I’ll get to perform live on stage soon too.
Favorite movie or TV show?
My favourite tv show is Money Heist.
Tell us about your latest release and how it came about
This song was written out of my frustration that a few people close to me would sometimes tell me how I should act, what I should say. For example, I’ve been told I should smile more because I look too serious or sometimes sad, even though I’m not, I’m just not the type that smiles all the time. This song was basically a message saying I don’t care what you say or think, I’ll be myself and I’ll do what makes me happy.
What is something you would want to change in the music and entertainment industry?
The music industry keeps on changing fast, the one thing that I do hope stays the same is that artists make music that means something to them and that connects with others.
Can you outline your creative process?
I usually come up with a topic and song inspiration in mind, but there are times my team and I come up with a topic and song type together. Then we make the instrumental out of the inspired track, we write lyrics over the track, and record a rough demo of the entire song.
What is the achievement or moment in your career you are the most proud of and why?
I don’t know if this is the biggest achievement, but there was a specific time in my singing career that was definitely a highlight. It was when I performed on stage in 2019, before the pandemic started, in front of hundreds of people, in a fundraising concert for cancer research. I remember being so scared before my performance, but right before I went on stage, my vocal coach Marla Joy told me to really enjoy this experience because I’ll only be able to do it once, and as soon as I stood in front of the mic, in front of the huge crowd, all my fears disappeared. I was able to perform and really enjoyed it and I almost cried at the end when everyone was clapping and cheering.
What do you think an artist should sing about nowadays?
I think it depends on the artist and what he’s feeling and experiencing. You can write about anything that’s important to you, there’s no limit.
Do you have any regrets?
I regret not being able to enjoy live performances during the pandemic. When I did go on stage before, I used to feel anxiety before each performance, but now I welcome it because I miss singing in front of a live audience so much.
What is some piece of advice you would give to yourself right now?
I would advise myself to keep doing what I love doing. To write songs that truly come from my heart and connect with others and to never give up on my dream.
