Independent pop innovator BONZIE has released her dreamy new single “Citrus.” BONZIE wrote” “Citrus” using a piano loop she played and created and then her friend Hayden Easterling aka Lucent created a homemade synth world for it to live in. BONZIE mixed and mastered the song to feel like an immersive deep dive into one’s memory – making it feel like a 3D world.
“Citrus” marks the follow-up to BONZIE’s recent single “Spiritual Violence” featuring Teo The Artist. “Spiritual Violence,” also written, produced and engineered by BONZIE, is a haunting tale of personal trauma and evolution, representing the shattering and dismantling of a certain intangible violence. Utilizing the unique voice of Chicago rapper Teo The Artist on his crushing verse, the R&B-infused track is a balance of two perspectives that resonate with the song’s universal message.
“I couldn’t believe it when this silly bird agreed to go into a completely empty Mario’s castle and go search for the hidden hats and try them all on. I was shocked to hear they were up for such a task. Brave! It ended up being a splendid experience for everyone involved. They filmed the journey, scored by my song ‘Citrus.’” Says BONZIE on the video
“I believe in making songs that go beyond explanations. I want to represent things inexpressible right now with this answer that I type out. To me, that’s the least I can do as a songwriter, for the listener’s benefit. The story is everything combined when you hear it. I encourage listening and feeling the meaning for yourself.”
“I hope listeners can dive in with me and it can bring them something useful, powerful or healing!”
