Asbury Park’s self-proclaimed “bitch rockers” Little Hag are excited to share their new single “You Blew It.” The track is the latest single to be released set from their new album, Now That’s What I Call Little Hag, on August 23 via Bar/None Records (pre-order). The song’s video was Directed and edited by Ali Nugent and encapsulates the band’s raw energy and uncompromising attitude. Little Hag’s Avery Mandeville says, “The song’s chorus is just a text my ex sent me when he got kicked out of the band. They say if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all… so these words are his.”

Now That’s What I Call Little Hag will be released August 23 on Bar/None Records. Pre-order here:

* How did you come up with the term “Bitch Rockers” and why does it define you so well?

The term came about because I find it impossible to understand a band’s sound in your standard genre categories. Like what does “indie rock” or “alt rock” even sound like? Our nasty attitude and proclivity for the profane and taboo things in life is just summed up so well with “bitch rock”.

* What’s the story behind this album? What inspired it?

This album was written during a breakup and a move that changed my life, and the beauty that comes with settling into your queerness along the way. It’s mostly mean and gross with some joyous gay themes sprinkled in.

* Your lyrics are very direct and honest. What do you want to convey to your audience with your storytelling?

I simply must get to the heart of the matter! Confessional, honest art is everything to me. I want people to see their truth within mine because we’re all just out here feeling the same 4 feelings on shuffle forever.

* How did you guys know you were destined to be in a band together?

Fern (lead guitar) is the core of the band and the reason we’re together. I recorded my first solo EP with him in 2016 and he recruited Owen to play drums on it. We picked up my childhood neighbor Cara (keys/vocals) and amazing friend Mitchell (bass) along the way and I’m so grateful to feel their love and trust in everything we do.

* How did your sound and attitude evolve or change from your beginnings and first releases?

I think the songwriting and bitchy energy has been the same since the beginning but we’ve taken more sonic risks, especially on this record, venturing away from singer/songwriter rock into electronic pop, industrial rock, punk, trip-hop and disco.

* What other topics or themes do you want to address with your music in the future?

I would like to be a little braver to address global issues like genocide, corporate greed and climate change. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have the authority to speak on these subjects, but I think in reality we need all the voices we can get. Free Palestine and fuck American imperialism.

* What’s the best song you ever wrote and why?

“Piss.” It’s a song about chronic UTIs with a super saccharine, tasty production by Dana Why. Some standout lyrics are “My achilles bladder, my achilles clit, I sit with my pain cause pain is my bitch” and “Everything is fine, pissing from cloud nine.” So stupid but so good.
