Singer-songwriter Susie Suh reveals the music video for “Invisible Love,” the ethereal and uplifting title track of her latest album, which will receive a special vinyl release on May 27th. An anthem of self-love and empowerment, the song was informed by Suh’s travels to sacred sites around the world, which enabled her to discover and embrace her authentic self.

Depicting different versions of the divine feminine in a journey of self-empowerment, the “Invisible Love” video is the latest visual release from Suh, all of which have featured a lone female character who travels the globe, displaying the beauty and power of the natural world. “I wanted to take people with me to these sacred and majestic sites around the world to show them the beauty of Mother Nature and also connect them to the energy there.”

“Suh will be hosting a special, one-night event in Los Angeles at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral on May 17th, featuring a musical performance and immersive wellness experience. THE INVISIBLE LOVE EXPERIENCE will include a musical performance with a classical string trio, a sound healing ceremony, and essential oil therapy, while lying or sitting on yoga mats.  This will be followed by a meet-and-greet and refreshments. How would you describe your “story” as an artist?

My story is about an artist who has been making and releasing music quietly and organically on her own terms. I created my own label, Collective Records, after my first major label album, and since then have been producing all the music and visual content independently. I’ve been fortunate to watch my songs spread their wings and make their way into the world onto playlists and tv/film without a lot of marketing behind them.  And I’m ready now to step outside my comfort zone and share my music with more people.

What do you want your music to communicate?

I hope my music helps people connect to their truest selves and helps them remember who they truly are.  My desire is to make music that connects with the listener and conveys an emotion that the listener might be feeling inside but doesn’t know how to express. This is how I feel about music that has really moved me.

What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?

Nature is one of my biggest sources of inspiration. A lot of my lyrics and visuals are inspired by my connection to nature, the seasons, the elements, the animals, and the healing powers of Mother Earth.

Who is an artist that you look up to more than others today?

I think Aurora is a beautiful artist. Her artistry feels very pure and she reminds me of a Norwegian magical fairy elf.  Her personality and music feels otherworldly and yet uniquely herself.

What’s the record or artist that made you realize you wanted to be an artist?

Joni Mitchell and her album Blue is one of my favorite albums of all time. The depth of her lyrics, her songwriting, and her voice have always resonated with me. She is such an amazing storyteller and I feel that this album in particular, draws me in to her stories and the raw emotions of her music like no other.

Tell us about your latest release ‘Invisible Love’ and how it came about?

‘Invisible Love’ is a collection of songs written over a period of time that chronicles a spiritual quest or journey that I’ve been on. The album and songs were inspired by my time spent in nature and travels to sacred sites around the world. The album was also inspired by my studies in meditation and sound therapy, and infuses more intentional healing into the sonic experience.

What inspires your sound?

It’s hard to describe, but I feel that the songs themselves ultimately know what they need and it’s my job to find the musicians and instruments that can help them realize their final form.  And so my sound is inspired by whatever the song itself is asking for.

What’s your favorite song that you wrote? Why?

One of my favorite songs on Invisible Love is a song called ‘Blood Moon’. It’s a song that I wrote on piano on a windy night when I lived in Ojai and refers to a solar eclipse, a time of heightened feelings and emotions. The song foretells a time of great change and it was one of those songs that wrote itself. Sometimes the songs come out easy and other times you have to work at them.  This one just happened in front of my eyes and spilled out onto the page.

Where are some things you really want to accomplish as an artist?

I would like to continue making music that resonates with people. Making music is my way of connecting with others and I hope to continue to make an impact with my music and reach more people.

Favorite lyric you ever wrote?

“Dewdrops on my skin. Won’t you come on in. I’ve been waiting for you to cleanse my wounds and fill the outline in.” This is from the song ‘Down the River’ and is one of my favorite lyrics on Invisible Love. I love these lyrics because I feel the words are so visual and highlight the healing elements of water.

Was there ever a moment when you felt like giving up?

There were many moments. Being an artist can be at times extremely discouraging and difficult. I remember wondering if I should continue doing music after my first album, but I decided to do it on my own terms and that’s when I started Collective Records. Throughout the low points I’ve been reminded how my music resonates with people and it has given me the strength and will to keep moving forward with it.

What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

Always speak your truth and be your authentic self. The world needs more people who are uniquely themselves.

Where do you think the next game changer will be in the music industry and entertainment scene?

I believe Web 3 and smart contracts are the next game changer in the music scene. When I see what a company like Royal is doing and how fans can directly support their favorite artists by owning a share of their music, it makes me question the older models of the music industry and how effective they really are
