Deja Vu is an indie pop record with catchy vocal hooks, bass grooves and sounds inspired from the 80s. The song gets you on your toes right from the start when Sparsh’s vocals come in and by the chorus the song explodes with melodic synths and heavy bass grooves. Semwal has done the production and mix on the song and his vocals come in fresh on the second verse.

Deja Vu is written about how falling in love with someone can make you go crazy to the level that you start seeing them in strangers passing by. Sparsh and Semwal are one of the few Indians who can make english pop records that are radio friendly. Deja Vu is their highly anticipated collaboration after “Through These Years”

How did you become n artist?

– I was always attracted to music whatsoever. I picked up learning guitar when I was in 7th grade. But I really got seriously into it when I saw Ed Sheeran Live in Dublin video on Youtube in 2015. I started watching his live performances and interviews. It really helped me find out the songwriter and artist in me.

How do you think this record is different from your past ones?

My previous records are more towards a melancholic or sad vibe. The new tunes definitely are more upbeat and groovy. I haven’t released since last December so I have put all my time and energy making these as good as I can. New music is better produced and mix/mastered as well.

Favorite track on the record and why?

(As this is a single) – The track is very different from what I have released before. Very upbeat, groovy and punchy. I haven’t had a song of my own I could dance to but now I got one. Also, the process of making Deja Vu was a very good learning experience for me.

Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing the album?

We did my vocals again after we had done the song just because I thought I could get a better performance. Spent a whole day working on that day and then scrapped it and keept the old ones only. It might not sound funny but it really was.

What are the dynamics within the band? Who writes the lyrics, who’s in charge of arranging the tunes etc?

(Not a band) – I have written and arranged the whole song myself. I sent a demo to Semwal and then he sat on the final production for this.

What’s a record that shaped your creativity?

I guess there are many but if I would choose one then it would definitely be Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ (multiply)

Who is an artist or band you look up to these days?

Really look up to LANY, joan and Valley. Real good music!

Any future projects?

Have a chain of releases lined up every month. Will keep on revealing one after every release.

What does music mean to you?

I started writing songs to express my emotions. It made me release whatever I was feeling. It honeslty is just like a therapy to me. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you finish writing a song and listen to it back. Music has always been a very important part of my life.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

I have never sticked to a very particular sound. But a lot of influences from Ed Sheeran , Lauv, LANY can be found in my music. I am just trying to make good radio friendly pop music from India.
