Tell us about your project
What Is Life originally started off as a 10 song album! The songs were fluid, and dynamic, but I figured that it may be best to break the album into smaller parts, and that’s where the EP was born. The title of the project really came as a fluke, I had finished making one of the songs and was blown away by how wek it turned out. I just went into my iTunes and named the playlist “What Is Life” and the name just stuck from there. It was definitely a “Eureka” Moment.
Are there any songs of yours you love more than others?
I really love all the songs that I’ve put out, but I think of this project, Feelings is my favourite piece of writing. I love it because it is so dynamic, yet so simple and easy for people to digest.
Who is an artist you look up to?
My biggest music Icon is hands down Jon Bellion. The guy is an absolute genius and I aspire to have an impact like him one day.
What do you do to keep your creativity alive?
When I wanna keep the inspiration alive, I try to switch up the creative process. I try to change my environments, work with new people and change the workflow. I also try to experience new things in life. Travelling, hanging out with friends! My music is really a reflection of my life.
Who’s an artist you’ve been listening non stop to these days?
I’ve been binge listening to a bunch of young pop artists. Zac Greer is probably one of my new favourites.
Favorite movie or TV show?
Favourite Movie is Blood Diamond, Favourite TV show is Prison Break
Tell us about your latest drop
My latest release is special because the three songs represent three different aspects of my life. Crazy, is the fun, carefree side that’s full of excitement, Skeletons is the more vulnerable side dealing with mental health and insecurities and Feelings is the emotional side. I worked with new producers and tried to show different aspects of my artistry in these songs.
Plans for the future?
I have a bunch of new music ready for release this summer and I am excited to put out more! Most likely a bunch of singles! I’m also ready to do some shows whenever this world gets back to normal.
Who inspires your looks, if anybody?
I draw my aesthetic inspiration from tumblr. I’ve always loved that moody, tumblr vibe and I think i’m still working on getting it to where I want to be. Toronto also is a huge influence on my style and aesthetic as a whole.
Was there a time you felt so proud of yourself and your work?
My proudest moment in my career was the first time that I heard people sing my songs back to me at a show. There is honestly no better feeling than that.
How would you say an artist should ‘make it’ nowadays?
The best way to make it as an artist is to stay consistent AND build a great team around you. Music is not an easy world to live in, and you can most definitely NOT do it alone. Having talented photographers, videographers, producers etc. will be crucial to success.
Is there anything you would change about this industry?
Music has changed so drastically over the last few years and artists are forced to be Tiktokers, twitch streamers, Youtube influencers, content creators, and Instagram influencers, etc. I really wish that we could get back to the music being the focus instead of having to wear so many hats on so many different platforms.
