Does Love Have to Be This Way” is a piano-driven pop ballad with cathartic songwriting and emotional vocals, documenting the “multifaceted” emotions endured after heartbreak, following moments of difficulty with love through past relationships and family trauma. The song describes the feeling of wanting to experience real love but not knowing if it’s truly attainable due to the past.

The vulnerable, sentimental track explores the pain of Sophia’s deteriorating relationship with her father and how that has impacted her lens of love and relationships as an adult. If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Does Love Have to Be This Way”? or felt a lack of hope in relationships and in love, this song will surely connect and strike a chord with its soul-stirring lyricism and emotional punches throughout its jarring message.

“I am so excited to be releasing my new single “Does Love Have to Be This Way”. This is truly my most vulnerable single that I’ve ever put out! I’ve learned that it’s okay to be vulnerable with your artistry and your music because so many people relate more than you would think. I personally feel that, that’s the best thing about music is that I can connect to absolutely anyone in the world, and people can feel less alone.

I wrote this song in a dark place of trying to understand why I was repeating cycles with people in love that were reminding me of my childhood, with the pain and hurt that I went through. I think this songs serves a purpose in more ways than one, just admitting that as humans we all long and search for connectivity, love and understanding. I’m so grateful that I can turn to writing and music to unleash my feelings and inner-thoughts, translating into art that others can relate or connect to.”
