Hailing from Seattle and rooted in his Ethiopian heritage, Yonny is back with the deluxe edition of “Everywhere, But Always.” This project marks a key milestone in his career, expanding the journey he started with earlier works such as “Ghetto Sunset” and “SK[I]NCARE” alongside Oble Reed.
With more than 3 million streams on its original version, the deluxe version introduces three new tracks and standout collaborations with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ambré and producer Sango (Drake, Frank Ocean, Bryson Tiller). Both are part of a list of artists who connect with Yonny’s mix of influences that stretch from Nirvana’s raw energy to Dr. Dre’s sharp production.
“The project that changed my life. Took me places I’ve never been, and made my dream a reality. It took a lot to get to this point, but somehow it feels like I’m just getting started,” Yonny shared on Instagram. That same pride has carried into appearances on platforms like Ebro Darden’s show and On The Radar Radio, where he has represented Seattle’s scene with conviction.
This deluxe edition introduces sonic textures. On “I Am,” Yonny strips things back, reflecting on self-acceptance over acoustic guitars. His reimagining of “Blue Door” with Ambré adds contrast and freshness: her velvety voice weaves with his cadence, giving the track a more intimate feel.
“Jumbo Jet,” a long-awaited collaboration with Sango, bursts with energy. Its powerful intro has already landed on high-profile playlists such as Amazon’s Break Through Hip-Hop.
Presented as a turning point in his career, this release builds on what Yonny accomplished in 2024 with “City In Motion,” a song that became a modern anthem for Seattle, opening the doors to media outlets such as The Seattle Times, Seattle Met, and On The Radar Radio.
Earlier this month, he celebrated the album’s anniversary with a special live concert in Seattle, where a full jazz band accompanied him in reinterpreting his songs, reaffirming his close connection to the city’s cultural roots. His partnership with Sounders FC also strengthened that bond with Seattle, a connection he reaffirms at every concert and public appearance.
With “Everywhere, But Always (Deluxe),” Yonny continues to show, as highlighted in the EP, his role as one of the most distinctive voices in current rap. His ability to balance vulnerability, ambition, and local roots reflects a career built on resilience and independence. Seattle, a city historically overshadowed by other scenes, finds in Yonny an artist who not only represents it but also projects it into the future.
